Thick, heavy medal with stunning original patina, having never been cleaned/polished. No dents/dings/scratches, in immaculate condition. Obverse: Italian legend in Art Deco styled lettering — “Vittorio Emanuelle III Re / Benito Mussolini Capo / Del Governo / Le Comunita Ebraiche / D’Italia a Ricordo Della Legge 30 X 1930 IX”. Italian Fascist party symbols present. Reverse: Menorah with Ten Commandments, and the legend “Senza La Legge Cielo E Terra Crollerebbero” (Without the law heaven and earth would collapse). This medal commemorates the “Jewish Communities Act” of 1930. The Jewish Communities Act developed under the Mussolini government, was designed to organize the Jewish legal standing and required every Jew to be a registered member of a Jewish community (which, unfortunately, made it easier in later years to institute anti-Semitic laws). A historically important medal. I was shocked to have it become available to me recently, knowing how rare it was. Shown in the last two screenshots is another example of this medal currently being offered on the internet from a coin dealer in Israel. There is a long, scholarly article from 2016 from Italy about this period of time. If you search these exact words on Google “MUSSOLINI E GLI EBREI Circolo Culturale Excalibur”, it is the first match that pops up. There you will see another example of this medal, also completely polished/cleaned! I guess of the few extant medals known how many were issued to begin with? Not more than 100, likely 50 or less, most have been cleaned at some point. This medal is truly museum worthy. 1925 Submarine Photo Album Navy Subs, USS Arizona, Sunken Sub, Carrier Langley. 1925, 1926, 1927 photo album from an early US submariner. Leather bound, 80 pages, probably 130 historical navy related photos. All photos are removable and none are pasted down. Several photos of the S-51 which was sunk and retrieved with large crew loss. Pictures of subs S-10, S-11, S-12, S-13. Pictures of the battleships Arizona, California, Tennessee, West Virginian, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Mississippi, Seattle, Idaho and more before Pearl. I have never had one like it before. Virtually everything is named and annotated including the subs, ships, and all the personnel. The named admiral is H. Lots of the shots are from New London, many from West Coast and San Francisco. Last 10-15 pages are the sailor after discharge as a cab driver and truck driver in San Francisco. Includes his id from the cab company with his photo on reverse. Included is another smaller album of about 30 pages with mostly his girlfriends and family pictures from the 20’s. This is a very nice example of a German Hirschfanger Dagger Short Sword which dates from the early 20th Century. It is mounted with a lovely straight beefy spearpoint blade that measures 9 3/4 inches in length by 1 1/4 inches at the widest. The blade has survived in beautiful, original condition with only some minor surface blemishes and continues to wear all of its nice markings on either side. It wears a nicely detailed straight German silver crossguard which frames an impressive stag horn hilt that fits well in the grip and features a beautiful silver escutcheon with the itinials of the original owner on one side. The deep rich dark green leather scabbard also remains in very nice original condition with just some wear to the leather finish on the tip. Overall measuring 16 1/8 inches in length. HISTORIC 1933 POSTER BY ERICH. The famed, and now legendary, German poster artist. Erich Ludwig Stahl was commissioned to render this magnificently bold image of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and his marching guards (see photo #2). This 1933 stamp-dated poster (see photo #3) eerily foreshadows much of the same style of imagery that Adolf Hitler would adopt throughout the 1940’s during his wave of Nazism to come. Stahl was always ahead of the curve. He was best known for his groundbreaking works in German expressionism in the 1910’s and’20s. Today, his 1919 posters from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari adorn the walls of museums around the world – including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
