COMPLETE WITH A FULL CREW ROSTER AND AIR WINGS. In total there are 37 signatures. We are not perfect. We are not experts in any collecting field. I do not know if or how they relate if at all.
Just an incredible find. A rare USS Lexington original pre WWII photo album. Appears to have belonged to a Navy pilot on the Lexington. Filled with 225 photos. Album is not completely full. Also there is several pages of the pilots daily diary. The entries are dated 1930. There are some personal photos but most are military photos. Incredible images of old Boeing Navy warplanes, rare in flight photos, a sailor/pilot stunt riding his Harley Davidson on the runway, several great images of the Lexington as well as photos on board. Way too much to describe here. Not enough room for all photos on listing. Just a rare piece of Naval history. Will include as many photos as I can. This is the Banana War era summer service khaki United States Marine Corps. Worn by Private Burleigh M. Odum formerly named John M. King who served with the Marine Corps from 27 June 1927 up until his honorable discharge on 6 September 1933. When the USMC muster roles became available, I was pleased to find his history well documented. I have the greatest amount of respect for these men- hence why I collect items that keep their names and their heroics alive. My items were obtained from the family directly or from a collector who obtained it directly from reputable sources. Therefore, other than stating the item is displayed on a size 38 mannequin, I will not give out specific sizes. I do not feel these to be reenactor pieces, nor Halloween costumes. If you are a collector with a mannequin display, I restate that this is displayed on a 38 mannequin- the typical larger size for the Banana War era Marine. The following records are available online via Ancestry. Com’s USMC Muster Rolls. Before purchasing, please feel free to check the records yourself. To expedite the service history, I will touch upon the highlights of his career. A brief service summary is included with this piece. 27 June 1927: D Company, Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. 29 September 1927: Sea School, Norfolk, VA. 12 November 1927: Marine Detachment, USS Lexington CV-2, MEMBER OF FIRST CREW ON LADY LEX! 7 September 1928: Did not rifle qualify on Lexington. This rare style pattern 1929 summer service blouse and is name stamped to Mr. Odum (BM Odum- name stamped in shoulder of blouse) and displays nicely. It has been stored in a humidity controlled collection for ten years now. The blouse has no odors and is as right as rain. It does show slight toning due to age and has a toning area that goes down the back of one sleeve. The service EGAs on the lapels are matching Pattern 1920 pieces with round roller nuts (one seems to be a replacement roller). This blouse is a scarce piece in its own right as it is a rare Pattern 1929 with its original p1920 EGAs. Given this was a Sea Detachment Marine on board the Lady Lex’s first crew and a Gunboat in China makes it that much more special. If you have any further questions about this item, please let me know. It comes from a smoke free home and was properly stored in a humidity and temperature controlled collection. Thank you for viewing this item and have a wonderful day. The item “Pvt Burleigh M Odum USMC Summer Khaki Coat CHINA USS LEXINGTON 1927-36 US MARINE” is in sale since Wednesday, February 07, 2018. USS Lexington (CV-2) , nicknamed “Lady Lex”. Was an early aircraft carrier built for the United States Navy. Originally designed as a battlecruiser, she was converted into one of the Navy’s first aircraft carriers during construction to comply with the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, which essentially terminated all new battleship and battlecruiser construction. Lexington and Saratoga were used to develop and refine carrier tactics in a series of annual exercises before World War II. She also delivered medical personnel and relief supplies to Managua, Nicaragua, after an earthquake in 1931. Lexington was at sea when the Pacific War began on 7 December 1941, ferrying fighter aircraft to Midway Island. After a few days, she was sent to create a diversion from the force en route to relieve the besieged Wake Island garrison by attacking Japanese installations in the Marshall Islands. The island was forced to surrender before the relief force got close enough, and the mission was cancelled. A planned attack on Wake Island in January 1942 had to be cancelled when a submarine sank the oiler required to supply the fuel for the return trip. Lexington was sent to the Coral Sea the following month to block any Japanese advances into the area. Lexington was briefly refitted in Pearl Harbor at the end of the month and rendezvoused with Yorktown in the Coral Sea in early May. A few days later the Japanese began Operation MO, the invasion of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and the two American carriers attempted to stop the invasion forces. They sank the light aircraft carrier Shh on 7 May during the Battle of the Coral Sea, but did not encounter the main Japanese force of the carriers Shkaku and Zuikaku until the next day. Aircraft from Lexington and Yorktown succeeded in badly damaging Shkaku , but the Japanese aircraft crippled Lexington. Vapors from leaking aviation gasoline tanks sparked a series of explosions and fires that could not be controlled, and the carrier had to be scuttled by an American destroyer during the evening of 8 May to prevent her capture. To view miscellaneous challenge coins. NOTE: Never personally given any of the coins. All coins are guaranteed to be in excellent condition unless otherwise specified above. The free listing tool.
