Antique original Chinese made pith helmet, otherwise known as a sun helmet. The brim is fabric covered cork and does have some damage. I would consider the entire helmet to be very very fragile. The paper manufacturers tag inside is similar to tags found in Japanese helmets. Which roughly translates to Produced by the factory of Guangda Industrial Co. I do not know exactly when the helmet was produced, who would have worn it, and whether it is a military helmet or not. The closest match I have found online was described as a Chinese made helmet for use in Imperial Japan. This helmet appears to fit the same description, but I consider it to be an unknown as I have no proof that it was used by Japan and no year of manufacture. Photographed in natural daylight. Dutch model 38R helmet as used in the Netherlands in may 1940 against the German invaders. In really excellent condition. This helmet was manufactured in the Netherlands in the 1930’s. The original 1930’s olive green paint is underneath. The chinstrap is in full length and not cracked. Liner felt pads are grey in color from origin. The heraldic Lion sign of the Kingdom of The Netherlands is original and never taken off. All in all a wonderful addition to any helmet collection. See also my other advertisements. En vraiment excellent état. Ce casque a été fabriqué aux Pays-Bas dans les années 1930. La peinture vert olive originale des années 1930 est en dessous. La doublure en cuir rouge-marron et le couvercle de réglage de la nuque sont de modèle original et fabriqués de 1953 à 1955 pour le BB. La jugulaire est pleine longueur et non fissurée. Les coussinets en feutre de doublure sont de couleur grise d’origine. Le signe héraldique du Lion du Royaume des Pays-Bas est original et n’a jamais décollé. One old Leather helmet. Multi piece construction of different leather, one part has aged more than other parts. Fits display head well, could be a commercial pilots helmet, has ear pocket system for comms, perhaps Gosport. Overall leather is good, needs treatment of so desired will leave that to the new owner, has old style woolen liner, chin strap fragile but still strong enough to fit through mini buckle and secure.. This type was rejected by the Army and re-used by police and firemen. Later on, lighter versions of this helmet (as this one is) were produced and directly issued to police and firebrigades.
