This is a good example of a German Hunting Horn which dates from the early 20th Century. It wears an escutcheon upon the top side that reads “Fürst-Pless”. The body has now richly patined with age and has a couple of small working ding along the side otherwise has survived in lovely condition and is nicely enhanced with a rich dark leather wrapping. This is a good example of a Post War Police re-issue 1920 German Sword Model 1873. It is mounted with a massive, slightly curved blade that measures 29 3/4 inches in length which remains in very nice condition with only some minor surface stains and does remain in unsharpened condition. The blade is well marked on the ricasso, under the languet, by the maker “ALEX COPPEL SOLINGEN” as well as is dated “80” on the spine. The metal stirrup guard remains in good condition as well and frames a composite grip which remains very healthy and sturdy. The blade is steel, straight, flat, hexagonal. Two cutting edges polished, no heel. The handle is round, wooden, plastic-topped orange. By spiral grooves handle wrapped with wire. At the bottom of a cylindrical sleeve, decorated with ornaments made of oak leaves. Spherical head handle, molded together with the upper nut. Decorated on both sides of the relief image of a s and an ornament from oak leaves. The head is screwed onto the blade shank and has a flat circular top a button. Cross-cast, from the front side in the form of a flying eagle carrying a s in its claws. On the reverse side has a cross dotted background. All metal parts are cast from aluminum hilt. The scabbard is made of metal, solid, surface covered with small dots. The end of the sheath round, with three embossed belts, decorated with ornaments made of oak leaves.
