Very Rare Antique Chinese Republic Army Officer General? The sword is made in the style of the Japanese Meiji Period Officer’s Kyu-gunto Katana sword, with a large solid brass D shaped guard, decorated in inner side with two crossed National Flags of the Republic of China, a Five bar – coloured flag. Please see the links below. The brass back-strap with an integral helmet formed pommel stamped on the top with 98, is engraved with Iron Blood 18-Star of Wuchang Uprising, flanked by 4 five pointed stars, possibly the rank of the Superior General First Class of the Chinese Army Yjíshangjiàng. But we are not assured, amidst the floral garlands also adorned with 4 five pointed stars. For the ranks of Chinese army please see the link below. The wooden grip is covered in Ray skin and wrapped in twisted and straight brass wire, brass ring with the button to release the locking mechanism that holds the scabbard to the hilt, stamped with 98. The slightly curved, long and sturdy, steel blade in the form of Japanese Katana blade (possibly an original Japanese blade) is chrome or nickel plated, but still sharp. The steel scabbard, with wood insert, original to the sword, with single suspension ring is stamped on the mouth, and the shoe with 178. Most of the Chinese republic dress swords are with a crudely made brass hilt and poor quality tiny blades. This particular sword which we are offering for sale is with a superb quality hilt and strong katana type blade which is fairly scarce and unique. We were not able to find another sword of comparable quality in any of the references, including the internet sources. Possibly this is the only example of this rare sword known to exist, and this may be the only chance in life to acquire such an authentic, unique example, of Chinese sword. CONDITION: In good condition considering its age, Showing the wear and the usage. The nickel or chrome plating on the steel blade slightly worn with some light surface staining, the tip with a small nick. The brass hilt with remains of the silver color plating. So it is possible that the brass hilt was plated, or just highlighted by silver, nickel, or chrome plating. The steel scabbard with surface rust, and one minor dent on the spine. The Blade and the scabbard can be easily cleaned, but we left the sword in untouched condition, as it was found. MEASUREMENTS (approximately): The overall length in the scabbard is: 96.5 cm (37.99 inches). The overall length of the sword without the scabbard: 89 cm (35.04 inches). The overall length of the blade 73 cm (28.74 inches). The width of the blade: 2.8 cm (1.1 inches). The spine thickness of the blade: 8 mm (0.31 inches). In the Country in which you live. It is mounted with a lovely arsenal blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 1/4 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition with only some minor surface blemishes and a few light scratches on one side. The tang wears the signature ” TAKAMASA saku” on one side and a date that translates to “Showa juhachinen nen kugatsu (1943, September) ” on the other side. All the fittings including the wrapping remain very nice and clean. The metal scabbard also remains in nice with just a couple of tiny dings. Overall measuring 40 5/8 inches in length. This is a good example of a Chinese Nationalist Army Dress Dagger. It is mounted with a heavy straight blade that measures 10 1/4 inches in length which is a bit stained but overall remains in good condition. It wears pretty brass fittings which are nicely embossed that accentuate a faux shell hilt. Interestingly, the hilt has been personalized with cut glass stones of which six of the original ten still remain. The metal scabbard also wears pretty detailed brass fittings and although has a few small dings, does remain in good serviceable condition. Overall measuring 15 1/2 inches in length. This is a fascinating example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword late War Pattern most likely by the Swordsmith Naga Mitsu. It is mounted with an hand-forged blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 3/4 inches in length. The beefy blade when found was covered in dried surface grease and continues to wear some as well as also has a few nicks along the cutting edge, nevertheless is beautiful indeed. This Sword appears to be by the maker Naga Mitsu due to the style of fittings and lovely forged blade however, I HAVE NEVER REMOVED THE HILT as it is tightly fitted and I do not care to damage it. All the fittings also remain in very nice condition and include a double lock variation. The sea green stained wooden scabbard is enhanced with a pebbled finish and remains near mint but interestingly reflects that it was never finished with no evidence whatsoever that the bottom fitting and carrying ring were ever mounted. This is a gorgeous example of a Japanese Shin Gunto Sword carried by an Army Officer during World War II that is mounted with an ancestral signed blade. The late KOTO , early Shinto blade wears a cutting edge of 25 1/8 inches in length. The blade has survived in beautiful polished condition with just some minor surface blemishes and wears an impressive FULL TEMPER that is actively wavy on either side. The tang bears two holes and is signed which translates to Izumino? (two of the characters are difficult to decipher due to the aged tang as well as one of the holes). All the nice quality fittings also remain very nice and feature a lovely silver family mon that has been mounted upon one of the menuki. The regulation metal Army Shin Gunto scabbard is most likely in pristine condition as it continues to wear is leather combat covering that also remains healthy. Still present, is a blue and brown Tassel that although has lost most of one of the tassels, does remains nice and with vivid color. Overall, the Sword measures 38 inches in length. This is a very nice example of a Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a well made grooved, machine made blade that measures 26 5/8 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with just some minor surface blemishes. The fabulous large D-guard is beautifully detailed and although has one very small stress crack to one edge, does remain tight and sturdy as well as is wonderfully enhanced with a silver family mon on the backstrap. The pretty white rayskin covered hilt remains very healthy and continues to wear its original twisted wire wrap securely in place.
