This is a vintage 1930s era US Army wool mackinaw. The mackinaw is in DISTRESSED vintage condition. The wool is reasonably crisp and looks clean (no stains) but there is significant moth damage in a number of areas. Very wearable (and very rare), great size, but with damage as noted. PLEASE NOTE a number of spots on the back – see photos! The inside tag is mostly not legible, it looks like the size is 3-something, 36 or 38? Really not sure so PLEASE USE THE MEASUREMENTS as a gauge of fit. Following is the measured size of this garment. Chest is measured from armpit seam to armpit seam. Shoulders are measured from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. Length is measured from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the garment (including waistbands). Sleeve is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve (including cuffs). Pants waist is measured unstretched across the top of the garment from side to side. This 1930’s U. Army Full Dress Field Grade Officer’s white summer cap is in very good condition overall; The cap is faded from use, age and storage and has a small area of staining on the top of the cap, cap badge has toning and nice patina, sweatband is intact and has minor wear (all stitching in very good condition), when worn the visor has a very nice shape and the oak leaf clusters in gold bullion on the visor have nice toning with no fraying or loose threads. This is a nice example of a large Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword, Type 19. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade with a cutting edge which measures 27 1/2 inches in length that remains in very nice, original condition with only minor surface blemishes. The beautifully detailed D-guard has now developed a very nice, rich aged patina and features a wonderful silver family mon on its backstrap. The lovely white rayskin covered hilt has survived in healthy condition and with its original twisted wire wrap still nicely place. The plated metal scabbard has some minor flaking and one small ding to the drag, otherwise has survived in very nice serviceable condition as well. Overall measuring 38 5/8 inches in length. This is a wonderful example of a World War II Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The blade wears a cutting edge that measures 26 9/16 inches in length and remains very nice in its condition with just some minor surface blemishes and a few very tiny nicks to the cutting edge, nevertheless continues to wear a beautiful polish and boasts a gorgeous actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The blade also features a lovely horimono on either side. The tang wears two holes and is signed “Bizen No Kuni Osafune Sukesada Saku”. This Sword wears high quality Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts that also remain very nice condition in their condition as well as is accentuated with a pretty silver family Mon upon one of the menuki. The Regulation scabbard has also survived well with just some light scuffing to the beautiful lacquer finish however has no dings. Overall, the Sword measures 38 3/4 inches in length. US m1917A1 Kelly helmet, all original. Liner, center pad, leather, & chinstrap all in very good condition. 2 spots of rust on shell, see photo #6, but don’t detract from appearance & overall condition of paint, which is super, inside & out. ORIGINAL 1920S-1930’S UNITED STATES ARMT CERTIFICATE OF MERIT MEDAL, FULL WRAP BROOCH W/ OPEN C CATCH. DAVIDSON & GEORGE W. RIBBON DRAPE TESTED U. In 1905, a medal was created for those holding a Certificate of Merit and called the Certificate of Merit Medal. This medal was authorized for wear on a United States military uniform. It was always worn following the Medal of Honor, before all campaign medals. The first recipient of the Certificate of Merit Medal was First Lieutenant William B. Baker, who was presented medal No. 1 on 30 December 1907. Baker had received an original Certificate of Merit as a Corporal during the SpanishAmerican War on 13 August 1898. The last act recognized by a Certificate of Merit was May 1918, when Corporal Paul Scaletta made a water rescue of soldiers in dangerous surf condition at Ocean Beach, California. The last soldier to be awarded the Certificate of Merit Medal was George Arrington for his service while a Private with the 24th Infantry Regiment in 1889. He was awarded medal No. 361, and subsequently converted it to a Distinguished Service Cross. The Certificate of Merit Medal was declared obsolete on July 19, 1918.
