Very Nice Italian Air Force Officer Sword
This is a very nice example of an Italian Air Force Dress Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a very nice straight, fullered blade that measures 30 1/4 inches in length. The blade is beautifully etched with bright blue and gold on either side, is marked by the maker E & F Hörster Solingen on the ricasso and remains in superb original condition. The lovely cup guard is in the motif of a full eagle’s wing with the pommel in the image of an eagle’s head and remains in nice tight condition. The black painted wooden hilt reflects a little wear to the painted finish, otherwise remains nice as well and the original twisted wire wrap is still securely in place. The metal scabbard is leather covered and beautifully fitted with the top fitting featuring the Air Force emblem. The scabbard also remains healthy in its condition and with its stitching tightly intact. Overall measuring 37 inches in length. TO SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS PLEASE SCROLL DOWN. 1930s Handwritten Diary by 5 Marines Armed Guards Yangtze River, China65 Pages
From an estate, a handwritten diary that was found with other military items from a US 4. Marine Veteran, George Mowerr, who was in China, WW II and Korea. The diary was written by five Marines (their rank and last names listed on the first page) while on duty in China from Dec. 28, 1934 through Feb 1, 1935. There are 65 full-sized pages, handwritten in pencil, describing their trip up the Yangtze River where they were detailed as Armed Guards for the Yangtze Rapid Steamship Co. And later transferred to the I Pinged and I Chang ships. An interesting paragraph on the first page of the diary: This was written in the simple words of those who made the trip, so that as they ramble through its pages, they may live over again in their memory those days spent on the Yangtze River. I have to agree after reading this diary, very interesting details of their trip with lots of scenery descriptions of the river, weather and people who lived along the river. Paragraphs on Chinese ships and soldiers, description of night watch looking out for bandits and Reds. One of the trips ashore is described as, By chance we were witness to a very interesting sight this afternoon. We saw a number of Chinese soldiers forcing a number of Chinese civilians into service in the army. They must have had about a thousand of these recruits and they marched them down the streets four abreast. It goes into more detail, ending with the sampan going over the rapids. Many more interesting events, their thoughts and observations of the Chinese way of life, and beautiful descriptions of the scenery. A very well written diary with some sentences crossed out. Not sure if the diary is complete because it ends on Feb. With no mention of any transfer or change in duty, only that they were close to Shanghai. It ends with, We anchored for the night at 2200. Shaw said that the Captain told him we would be in Shanghai about 1000 tomorrow. Nelson is becoming more and more restless. He is longing for the dear old Shanghai nights. RARE! Original Shanghai 1937 Sino Japanese War Chinese German M-35 Steel Helmet
This is a fantastic and historic find! This helmet was taken as a souvenir by a US Citizen that was working for the american Dollar Steamship Company, (“Dollar lines” that carried the dollar sign on the Stacks of their ships in that era). The men named on the plaque are both employees of Dollar lines and these men were pioneers in global radio technology of that era and worked for dollar lines (who had acquired a exclusive radio band wave length in 1926) in setting up global wireless service at that time and they were to set up world wide antenna stations all over the pacific. It appears these men were pressed into service. With the Chinese 88th Division. (likely dealing with radio communications) in shanghai at the time of Japanese attack and had a part in the defense of Shanghai during the Japanese attack in 1937. This helmet was given from Kaufman to Brown as a souvenir of their involvement and service with 88th Division. The helmet has a. Glossy coat of paint applied to it and the Chinese emblem hand applied at that time and then the presentation metal plaque applied to the rear flare of the helmet and you can clearly see the age in the application of the plaque and the paint wear. When this work was being done on this helmet the workman found out just how hard it is to drill the steel of these old helmets and was able to get only two of the 4 rivets in place to hold the plaque but could not get the ones higher up the flare to drill and secured the top of the plaque with a weld or solider that did not hold well over the years and has broken free at some point but the plaque has not been removed or is it loose or wobbly, lower rivets holding it in place. When you look close at the helmet’s edges you can clear see the age of the paint and just how original and period that the work done to this rare helmet is. The helmet has never had a liner since it was painted and was clearly picked up from battle debris and used as a souvenir from Brown to Kaufman and from we can see it is exactly the way it was presented to him in 1937. Look close at the photos and you will see that this helmet finish shows age and chipping on the edge and around the vents and especially the outside of where the plate is affixed and you can see the age and that the paint is original and just the way it was fixed up and presented to Jerry Kaufman in 1937 Shanghai. The helmet was recently found in a estate sale and I subsequently acquired it from that person. I was able to request and get what little info I have on the men mentioned on the plaque from the estate handler who provided a short written history from the family or benefactor of the estate but was not willing to allow me further contact with that person. All in all, this is one of the rarest helmets of the WWII era first documented one that I have seen for sale in 40 years of collecting helmets. So if you think a double Decal SS M-35 helmet is rare, they are common as dirt compared to a original Chinese issue M-35 let alone one with this history! Over 100,000,000 served. Very Nice Historical Recorded Japanese Army Officer Sword Wwii
This is an outstanding example of a War-Time Historically Recorded Battlefield Pick-Up World War II Japanese Army Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The old antique Wakizashi blade wears a cutting edge of 20 3/8 inches in length. The blade does wear a visibly wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side however reflects cleanings from recent years and has a couple of nicks to the cutting edge, otherwise does remain in good condition. The tang wears one hole and is signed “Bishu Ju San Shiro”. The Sword wears Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts which all remain in very nice however there is a small glued repair to the wrapping. The Regulation scabbard remains very nice in its condition and is wonderfully hand painted with the recording of one of the hill battles of Iwo Jima along with the date March 26, 1945 and the name of the GI that brought it home. Overall, the Sword measures 36 3/8 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. Check out my other items.
