Here is a very rare set of dress blues for a USMC private. Both tunic and trousers named to the same Marine, R. Includes a later-issue (“restrike”) Yangtze River Service Medal and an Expert Marksman badge. All original, no alterations. The set does have mothing, so it is not mint. Mothing is concentrated on the read shoulder of the tunic with scattered nips elsewhere, while on the trousers it is in the crotch area witha few elsewhere on the pant legs. The top eye for th ecollar closure is loose but still attached. Colors are still vibrant with no stains or fading. Displays very well, medium size. Group includes the named Good Conduct Medal, Divisional Match Badge, and Marine Corps Match badge. The Good Conduct is officially engraved, however the shooting badges are now. Fortunately, the Marine hand-etched his initials on the rear of both, and’DWC’ can be seen. According to the Muster Rolls, this Marine was a trumpeter in the band who served at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Parris Island. He metaled at Quantico in 1926 with the Elliot Trophy Team, however their team did not win the cup. I have attached an image of the entry in the June 1926 Muster Rolls. These early badges don’t appear often, and it’s even tougher to find attributed badges that weren’t engraved. Nice little research project… I can’t imagine many bandsmen were metaled in the matches!
