Offered is a rare gilt sterling silver Sovereign Military Order of Malta Knight of Magistral Grace Class medal complete in original presentation case. The Order of Merit of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, Knight of Magistral Grace features a large white enamel Maltese cross with gilt fleur-de-lis between the arms, suspended from a large gilt crown, suspended from a gilt ribbon bow with a red enamel shield bearing a white enamel cross, suspended from an oblong suspension ring for the neck ribbon. Excellent condition; all the enamel is intact with no damage, there is some oxidization to the gilding. Measures 5 7/8 inches height overall. It is marked Sterling and with an illegible makers mark directly underneath the hook on the back of the bow. Retains the original neck ribbon in the original fitted presentation case, the lid incised to reveal a white Maltese cross. The Order , popularly referred to as the Knights of Malta, was in existence as long ago as the early years of the 12th Century and is still extant today. In 1834 the order established a new headquarters in Rome and took on its current humanitarian and ceremonial role with Grand Masters being appointed by the Pope. HERE IS A SUPER RARE NUMBERED M. NO 1069, US MARINE CORP ORIGINAL ISSUED YANGTZE SERVICE MEDAL There where very few of these awarded to Marines. It has the old clasp and ribbon and did not glow. Medal is in good shape for almost a 100 years old. Please look over and ask questions as we know this is a rare and valuable piece for any collector to have. Some folks just don’t appreciate history and preserving it for us collectors. With what little research I could do, all I could find was one m. 1052 was issued to a marine corp Colonel on who served on the USS HENDERSON AIRCRAFT SQUADRON in 1927. A list of the marines in the squadron would most likely help getting closer to the Marines name. Some more digging should come up with him. 1918 OTTOMAN TURKEY INDEPENDENCE OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIC ISTIKLAL MEDAL RARE. Oval gilt bronze medal; the face with a panorama of Ankara, a radiant rising sun beyond, a globe surrounded by working implements and an ox cart and drover in the foreground, dated (AH1336 = AD1918); the reverse with a relief map of Turkey, a five-pointed radiant star at Ankara with lines radiating to the major Turkish cities, a plaque below dated (AH1338 = AD1920), all within a crescent with a five-pointed star above, a decorative scroll below. The new Turkish Assembly at Ankara approved the medal on 29 November 1920 and Law 66 was published on 4 April 1921, instituting the medal and suppressing all Ottoman decorations. The defeat of the Central Powers in World War I, of which the Ottoman Empire was one, hastened its final disintegration. A nationalist uprising led by Mustafa Kemal Pasha (Ataturk) fought against the terms of the Treaty of Sèvres which included the Greek occupation of Izmir, resulting in the Turkish War of Independence (Kurtulu Sava). On 23 April 1920 the new National Assembly met at Ankara for the first time and, following victory in two years of war with Greek and Allied forces and the remnants of Ottoman power, the Assembly abolished the Sultanate on 11 November 1922 and declared the Turkish Republic (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti), subsequently recognised by the Treaty of Lausanne, 24 July 1923.
