The USS Houston was highly decorated Northampton-class cruiser in the US Navy that had served as flagship of the Asiatic Fleet and later the United States Fleet. She was sunk by the Japanese navy during WWII at the Battle of Sundra Straight on March 1, 1942. This is a rare poster with the lower margin indicating a 1935 publication date. Far fewer posters were produced during the interwar period than during WWI or WWII and tended to emphasize travel and other benefits of enlistment rather than wartime themes. Overall condition is very good. If you have questions about how to pay for this item please let me know.
This is a fascinating example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword late War Pattern most likely by the Swordsmith Naga Mitsu. It is mounted with an hand-forged blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 3/4 inches in length. The beefy blade when found was covered in dried surface grease and continues to wear some as well as also has a few nicks along the cutting edge, nevertheless is beautiful indeed. This Sword appears to be by the maker Naga Mitsu due to the style of fittings and lovely forged blade however, I HAVE NEVER REMOVED THE HILT as it is tightly fitted and I do not care to damage it. All the fittings also remain in very nice condition and include a double lock variation. The sea green stained wooden scabbard is enhanced with a pebbled finish and remains near mint but interestingly reflects that it was never finished with no evidence whatsoever that the bottom fitting and carrying ring were ever mounted. Overall measuring 40 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. Check out my other items. This is an interesting example of a one-of-a-kind Field Made Customized German Trench Knife. It is mounted with a blade that measures 7 3/4 inches in length that reflects good honest wear with crude sharpening as well as a recent cleaning. The copper hilt is very nicely adorned with an eagle head pommel and flowing backstrap that fits snuggly to the thumb’s grip. The copper hilt is also hand-stamped with a name along with some markings on the underside. The simple black lacquered scabbard is lightly scuffed but does remain in good serviceable condition and has no dings. Overall measuring 11 5/8 inches in length.
