This is a nice and desirable example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful streamline stainless steel forged blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 24 7/8 inches in length and from tip to tip measures 33 1/8 inches in length. The blade has survived in very nice condition with only some minor surface blemishes. The well signed tang wears characters which translate to Fujiwara Mitsunaga motte? All the Army fittings remain in very nice condition as well. The wooden scabbard continues to wear its combat leather covering which is now a bit worn. Overall measuring 37 5/8 inches in length. Established first by the Kingdom of Poland and after the Partition by the three world powers, the Czar nationalized it as a Russia the Order of the White Eagle as well as The Order of the Virtuti Militiari in 1831 and the Order of St Stanislaw. St Stanislaw is the national saint of Poland. His body is entombed in a silver casket on top of the alter at the Wawel Castle Cathedral in Krakow. A most beautiful work of art. The Russians gave out thousands of these orders and they are available on the market for its gold content, however the Polish version has not been seen for sale for over fifty years in any class. This is a very nice example of a large Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword, Type 19. It is mounted with a grooved, machine made blade that measures 27 3/8 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition. The beautifully detailed D-guard has now developed a lovely rich aged patina and frames a hilt that is covered with healthy white rayskin and although only wears a portion of the wire wrap, does remain tightly in place. The plated metal scabbard has survived in very nice condition with just a very minor bit of flaking nevertheless remains in very good serviceable condition and has no dings. This is a very nice example of a Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a well made grooved, oil tempered blade that measures 27 1/8 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with a wonderful actively wavy temper line and with only a little minor surface blemishes. The fabulous large D-guard has now beautifully patined with age and is enhanced with a silver family mon on the backstrap. The beautiful white rayskin covered hilt remains very healthy and continues to wear its original twisted wire wrap securely in place. This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful and well made Arsenal stainless steel blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 23 7/8 inches in length which remains in near mint condition. The tang wears an arsenal anchor stamp and is signed ” TAKE YASU saku ” on one side and is hand-painted “Kata Oka Tsugu Kazu” which is most likely the name of the original owner. The hilt and all the fittings remain in superb condition as well. The wooden scabbard is black lacquered and also remains in near perfect condition. Overall measuring 36 5/8 inches in length. Awarded to St Sierzant Jan Bartos on May 17th 1921 who was attached to the 9th Legion Infantry Regiment. Awarded for the Polish Soviet War. One of the first to be decorated with the re-instituted VM. This is a very nice example of a well made Special Order Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous gendai blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 inches in length and remains in near perfect original polished condition. The blade also wears a beautifully active temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The wonderfully signed tang wears the signature “Chiku Go Ju Mutou Yukihiro ” as well as “Tame Kohara Masao Kun Sei Tan which indicates that “this Sword was forged for Kohara Mosao. On the other side of the tang it is also marked “Kou Ki Ni Sen Ropyaku Yo Nen Shin Syun” which translates to ” 1944 , New Spring”.
