Of fine quality in silver with eight muilti colored enameled arms with centre eight armed sun burst displaying 1 star denoting a 6th class badge, centre disc with enameled sitting tiger with hand painted details, affixed by single screw post, with a large red and green enameled laurel suspension, measuring 56 mm (w) x 86 mm (h – inclusive of laurel suspension and integral ring). 1918 OTTOMAN TURKEY INDEPENDENCE OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIC ISTIKLAL MEDAL RARE. Oval gilt bronze medal; the face with a panorama of Ankara, a radiant rising sun beyond, a globe surrounded by working implements and an ox cart and drover in the foreground, dated (AH1336 = AD1918); the reverse with a relief map of Turkey, a five-pointed radiant star at Ankara with lines radiating to the major Turkish cities, a plaque below dated (AH1338 = AD1920), all within a crescent with a five-pointed star above, a decorative scroll below. The new Turkish Assembly at Ankara approved the medal on 29 November 1920 and Law 66 was published on 4 April 1921, instituting the medal and suppressing all Ottoman decorations. The defeat of the Central Powers in World War I, of which the Ottoman Empire was one, hastened its final disintegration. A nationalist uprising led by Mustafa Kemal Pasha (Ataturk) fought against the terms of the Treaty of Sèvres which included the Greek occupation of Izmir, resulting in the Turkish War of Independence (Kurtulu Sava). On 23 April 1920 the new National Assembly met at Ankara for the first time and, following victory in two years of war with Greek and Allied forces and the remnants of Ottoman power, the Assembly abolished the Sultanate on 11 November 1922 and declared the Turkish Republic (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti), subsequently recognised by the Treaty of Lausanne, 24 July 1923. A 100% guaranteed authentic China early Republic “Order of the Golden Grain” second class breast Star in solid silver gilt and enamels. Reverse stamped in a square with nine Chinese characters “Made by Silver Bureau”, Chinese inscription above in six linked arched circles characters giving the date: “Republic of China Year 9″. (ROC era 9) – (AD 1920). ORDER OF THE GOLDEN GRAIN or. CHIA-HO in speaking Chinese. BREAST STAR – 2ND CLASS. Order of the Golden Grain. This order is also known as. “The Order of the Excellent Crop”. “The Order of the Splendid Harvest”. “The Order of the Bountiful Harvest”. Indicates the importance the government placed on the newly established Republic’s ability to meet the demands of an Agrarian nation to feed its vast population in the face of years of terrible draughts and devastating floods. A good harvest was always an indication of prosperity and civil tranquility during tumultuous times. The award’s centerpiece is a stalk of wheat during various stages of growth. This Order of the Golden Grain (Chia-ho) was instituted on 29 July 1912 by President Yuan Shi- kai for outstanding civil or military achievement. It was conferred in nine (9) classes. The First and Second Classes were distinguished by the badge of the order plus a breast star. The width of the Second Class breast star is smaller in diameter than the First Class breast star. In 1916, a special Second Class was instituted. The badge of the order is a star of eight groups of ascending (white enameled for 1st class) or (silver gilded for second class) rays with a large circular medallion in the center. The medallion contains five standing sheaves of grain in green and yellow enamel on a white enamel background. Surrounding the medallion is a narrow turquoise band edged in gilt with small red, yellow, blue, white, and black dots. These are the colors of the flag of the Chinese Republic, which consisted of five horizontal stripes of red, yellow, blue, white, and black. The breast star is the badge of the order superimposed over a large star of eight groups of ascending rays in faceted silver. The reverse is plain with a hinged vertical pin flanked by a vertical hook pin. Stamped in a square in the center is “Made by Silver Bureau” in Chinese Characters. This order was abolished by the Nationalist Government in 1929 and replaced by the Order of the Brilliant Jade.
