This is an amazing album in excellent condition. I’ve scanned everything so you can look at it all. Majority of album is unused – in perfect unused condition. 39 photos are carefully free-mounted with corners, plus 20 additional photos that were never put inside. All photos measure the same size 2.375 x 3.375. 19 of the 20 loose photos have notes on the back to explain exactly what we’re looking at. Some photos inside have notes as well but it was hard to pop them out and pop them back in again so some of the discovery is up to you. These were all taken in 1924. Two show the intersection of Fort & King Streets in downtown Honolulu w/ a policeman directing traffic. We see people on Pier 2 waiting for transport, the Dry Docks of Pearl Harbor (where #27 is moored). We see the United States Army Transports Cuba & Grant. Pier 5 Gov Pier’ both from a distance and then from the street side of the buildings with Hawaiians & soldiers and cars. We see the 27th Inf. We see early military cars for’Official Use Only’ w/ drivers often named on back. There’s a shot of The Punchbowl. The sea wall at Waikiki. A grass hut on King Street. Quarters at Fort Shafter. Pictures of a 12 gun. On the Palace Grounds we see a great throng of people… Hawaiians, military, and Reserve Officers Training Corps. The date is Nov 11th, 1924. An event takes place where Governor W. Farrington, Admiral McDonald, & Army General C. Menoher all occupy the same outdoor stage. Album Measures 7.25 x 12 Condition. All in Excellent Condition. 687b POLAND POLISH NAVY OBSERVER WINGS BADGE, bolts of lighting in gold gilt, multi piece construction, 11 pieces held together by a series of rivetes, silver gilt badge, very rare hand made by Col Bialkiewicz in London after the war. This badge is exactly the same as the original. Nothing known to me exists that comes closer to the very rare original. For those who do not know anything about Col. Bialkiewicz may be interested to know a little about this Polish patriot. A recipient of the Virtuti Militari for his heroic tank battle as a Captain at Monte Cassino. After the war he learned a trade as a jeweler making womens jewelery. His hobby was collecting and making medals and badges for exiled Polish soldiers. He donated much of his good fortune to poor Polish disabled veterans. I had the pleasure of knowing him and he shared some of his badges with me. May he rest in peace and his memory live on. Extremely Rare Turkish Republic Pilot Badge with a Certificate. 60 mm(width) x 50 mm(height). Badge is in great condition for its age and rarity, only small traces of wearing. This badge is modeled after a WW1 pilot’s badge, and the inscription at the top of the badge where the tughra would have been says “TC (Turkish Republic) – In memory of 10 years”. Taken by itself, I would have said that the already badge is a unique and unexampled item, but the document tells a much interesting story. The document is a graduation diploma from the Eskiehir aviation school. What they have done in this case is scratch out the usual wording and written in that this is a special award in recognition of 10 years’ service, to a “Tecnikci” or technician, who(probably) was an employee of the aviation school. That confirms that the badge is probably one of a kind. It is very interesting and unusual that the awarded military man has a Russian surname. Most likely heRussian pilot? Got into the Turkish military aviation school after the civil war in Russia, fleeing to Turkey from the Bolsheviks. The badge depicted on the diploma is – one would presume – something that was awarded to graduates of the aviation school. Obviously it is also modeled after the Ottoman pilot’s badge, but with the foundation date of the empire removed, and the “TC” or Turkish Republic cypher added at the top. This confirms that such badges were used by the Republic after the change to Latin writing at the end of 1928. Translation of the diploma. Pilotluk derecesi/piloting degree. Rasitlik derecesi/aviation degree. Teknik derecesi/ technical degree: 1. A Diplom to a flyer graduated from school of Aviation. This diplom is presented for the 10th Anniversary of Turkish Republic.
