Original Latvian Bear Slayer Order. This is the highest medal/order Latvia bestows. It is the equivalent to the Hero Star of the Soviet Union and the Congressional medal of Honor of the United States. This is an original Bear Slayer number 672 that was issued in 1921 to Janis Grunte. The book is not included but I will be happy to include the information in the book that shows pictures of Janis Grunte and a history of when he received this high honor and what he did to deserve it. Only around 1600 of these bear slayer orders were ever given out between 1919 and 1928. To survive not only the whole time till today but to also have survived the entire 80 years of the Soviet Union occupation when these medals were illegal to possess, is pretty incredible.
