ARTIFACT: This is a stunning circa 1920s-1930s Bolivian Order of the Condor of the Andes Grand Officer neck badge. The blue-enameled Maltese cross has ball-tipped finials and Kantuta (cantua buxifolia) flowers between its arms. It hangs from an elaborate suspension in the form of a condor upon a green neck ribbon. Its face has a circular central medallion with the mountain of Potosi and a radiant gold sun in a blue sky encircled by a white enamel ring inscribed LA UNION ES LA FUERZA MCMXXV (Strength through Unity 1925); the reverse has a central red enamel medallion bearing the gilt letters RB (Republica Boliviano). The order was instituted on April 18, 1925 for civil and military merit and is Bolivias highest award. SIZE: Medallion: approximately 1-11/16 in height and 1-11/16 in width; ribbon: 31 in total length (including ties). CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Gilt silver, enamel, silk. ATTACHMENT: Suspension rings, clip, ribbon with ties. ITEM NOTES: This is from a foreign medal collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful hand-forged blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 11/16 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with a lovely actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears one hole and is unsigned. All the very nice fittings have also survived in beautiful, clean condition. The metal scabbard also remains in very nice in its condition with only a few light scuffs to the finish. This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer’s Sword which dates from the World War II Era and is mounted with a blade by Kanenaga who was known for his fine, well made stainless steel blades. This lovely blade wears a cutting edge that measures 25 1/2 inches in length. The blade has survived in beautiful original condition with only some very minor surface scratches and a couple of very tiny nicks along the cutting edge. The tang is signed with a signature that translates to Fujiwara Kanenaga Motte? Seitan saku kore and on the other side? Tasugi Shinichi (most likely the name for whom it was made). Kanenaga is also known as the originator of stainless steel blades. The beautiful nice quality Military fittings all remain in very nice, clean condition as well. The LIGHTWEIGHT textured wooden scabbard also remains near perfect in its condition with just a couple of very tiny chips to the finish. Overall measuring 39 inches in length. Gold-edged red enamel Maltese cross with gold-edged white enamel panels on each arm, with ball-tipped gold finials, with gold and red and green enamel wreath between the arms, on gold crown suspension with red and green enamel jewels; the face with a deep red enamel circular central medallion bearing the crowned cipher of Prince Charles III, founder of the Order within a white enamel ring inscribed in silver letters PRINCEPS ET PATRIA (Latin = Prince and Country); the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the gold-edged red and white enamel lozenges of the arms of the Grimaldi family, rulers of Monaco, within a white enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters DEO JUVANTE (Latin = With Gods help); small chips to the red enamel of some of the points, a small hairline crack and minute chip to the white enamel of the ring of the reverse and a small loss of white enamel below the letter E in DEO (see illustrations); on original ribbon with rosette denoting an award of the officer class. Offered for sale is extremely rare and old order of YUGOSLAVIAN CROWN 2nd class, Grand Officer from Serbia / Yugoslavia. Complete set – star, neck cross, ribbon. Very RARE as full set!!!! Comes with authentic neck ribbon. Ribbon is on worn state, with tears, but is real period item. Order of The Crown was one of the highest award in Serbia / Yugoslavia at the time and was awarded only to top officials, generals, diplomatic personnel and heads of foreign states. Very few awards were given! Award is dated approximately from 1929 to 1941. Enamel is real hard enamel, tested with the needle. Made from silver with gold plating. Dimensions: 1 Star – 75 mm wide. 2 Cross – 55 mm wide. Awards are in good condition for it’s age. There are couple chips to white enamel of the reverse of the cross.
