This is a very nice example of a large Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword, Type 19. It is mounted with a grooved, machine made blade that measures 27 3/8 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition. The beautifully detailed D-guard has now developed a lovely rich aged patina and frames a hilt that is covered with healthy white rayskin and although only wears a portion of the wire wrap, does remain tightly in place. The plated metal scabbard has survived in very nice condition with just a very minor bit of flaking nevertheless remains in very good serviceable condition and has no dings. This is a very nice example of a Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a well made grooved, oil tempered blade that measures 27 1/8 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with a wonderful actively wavy temper line and with only a little minor surface blemishes. The fabulous large D-guard has now beautifully patined with age and is enhanced with a silver family mon on the backstrap. The beautiful white rayskin covered hilt remains very healthy and continues to wear its original twisted wire wrap securely in place. ARTIFACT: This is a Model 1930 Swedish Air Force officer pilot dagger with a hanger and portepee, or sword knot. The dagger comes in its original gilt brass and painted wood scabbard, attached to which is a dual hanger (hanger is possibly post-WWII) that has a small winged and crowned propeller medallion. The end of the scabbard is capped in brass with a wonderful feathered or scaled design. The grip is entirely wrapped in brass wire and the pommel is capped with the trio of crowns representing Norway, Sweden and Finland. The guard is simple and squared-off in brass. The bright blade is stiletto-shaped. SIZE: Approximately 13-1/4 in length and 3-1/2 in width (at guard); blade only: 9-1/8 in length (including ricasso) and 3/4 in width; scabbard only: approximately 9-1/2 in length and 15/16 in width; hanger has a 7-5/8 drop from scabbard; about 13-1/2 total length (while in scabbard). CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Steel blade, wire-wrapped grip, gilt brass, rayon/cotton/nylon knot; leather washer; gilt brass and painted wood scabbard. ATTACHMENT: Hangers, sword knot. This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful and well made Arsenal stainless steel blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 23 7/8 inches in length which remains in near mint condition. The tang wears an arsenal anchor stamp and is signed ” TAKE YASU saku ” on one side and is hand-painted “Kata Oka Tsugu Kazu” which is most likely the name of the original owner. This is a very nice example of a well made Special Order Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous gendai blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 inches in length and remains in near perfect original polished condition. The blade also wears a beautifully active temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The wonderfully signed tang wears the signature “Chiku Go Ju Mutou Yukihiro ” as well as “Tame Kohara Masao Kun Sei Tan which indicates that “this Sword was forged for Kohara Mosao. On the other side of the tang it is also marked “Kou Ki Ni Sen Ropyaku Yo Nen Shin Syun” which translates to ” 1944 , New Spring”. This is a very good example of a War-time production Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a massive machine-made stainless steel blade that measures 25 1/8 inches in length that has survived in near mint condition and wears an unmarked tang. This is a very nice example of a World War II Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The very fine antique Shinto, unsigned blade wears a cutting edge of 25 1/2 inches in length and from tip to tip it measures 32 inches. The blade does wear a visibly beautiful actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side and remains in untouched, uncleaned condition with only some minor surface blemishes. This blade has survived in very healthy condition and is a very nice quality made antique blade with no flaws, no bends and no cracks. The Sword wears Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts which all remain in very nice condition as well. The Regulation scabbard also remains very nice with only one very tiny ding. It is mounted with a gorgeous Seki blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 26 1/4 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with its beautiful polish and only some very minor surface blemishes as well as continues to wear its lovely, actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears the signature “Seki ju ko Jima KANENORI saku ” and all the nice quality fittings remain very nice as well. This is a superb example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Sword which dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a STAR STAMPED Gendai blade with a cutting edge that measures 24 1/2 inches in length and wears a lovely wavy temper line which extends to the tip on either side. The blade has survived in excellent condition with only some minor light surface blemishes. The tang is signed and dated which translates to “Musashi no kuni Akiyuki zou kore” and “Showa juhachinen go gatsu kichi jitsu (1943, May lucky day)”. This is an exceptionally nice example of a Japanese Non-Regulation Naval Officer’s Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful, well made Antique Shinto Blade that wears a cutting edge of 26 1/2 inches. The blade has survived in superb condition in gorgeous polish with only some very minor surface blemishes and does boast a fabulously active straight temper line. The tang wears two holes and is signed on one side which translates to “Fujiwara SADATSUGU “. The hilt and all the fittings remain in excellent condition as well. The wooden scabbard continues to wear its beautiful leather combat covering that also remain in outstanding, healthy condition.
