This is a documented and a very nice example of a Scottish Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Infantry Officer Basket Hilt Broadsword that dates from the World War II Era. Murray of the G & S Highlanders according to its Wilkinson records. The lovely grooved etched blade measures 32 5/8 inches in length by 1 inch at the widest. The blade remains in extremely nice condition with only minor surface staining and continues to wear all of its gorgeous etching on either side. The basket hilt has also survived well however has some flaking to the plating with minor surface oxidation. The beautiful basket hilt liner has lost a small bit of its red covering, otherwise remains very healthy as well with the doeskin inner liner very nice and clean. The red cap tassel remains very nice and frames a wonderful fishskin covered hilt that is very healthy in its condition and with its twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The combat leather scabbard also remains very healthy with only flaking to the plating of the base fitting. Overall measuring 40 1/2 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. WW2 Dutch steel helmet M34 type in original condition. This helmet was manufactured in the Netherlands by “Artillerie Inrichtingen” or “Verblifa”. The helmet shell is original. The badge was removed in the fog of war during the 5 days of defending the Netherlands against the Germans (may 10-15 1940). Against the facts proved by tests, the soldiers feared the soft copper badge would make a good entry for bullets to enter and pierce the steel helmet. Although untrue, they removed the badge when being near the front line. During the occupation by the Germans, badges were removed as well to meet the Nazi standards. But that was done mechanically, and not leaving clear traces as this example shows. This is a highly collectable item which will undoubtedly increase in value. See also my other advertisements. United States Navy Lieutenant William Dreier was born February 2nd 1897. He enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the Destroyer U. Brooks while apart of the Scouting Fleet in the Caribbean, Atlantic, & Pacific becoming an officer. He passed away January 30th 1977. ORIGINAL UNITED STATES NAVY GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, W/ FULL WRAP BROOCH. RIBBON DRAPE TESTED U. The Navy Good Conduct Medal is the oldest Good Conduct Medal, dating back to 26 April 1869. There have been a total of four versions of the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the first version of which was issued from 1870 to 1884. The original Navy Good Conduct Medal was also not worn on a uniform, but issued with discharge papers as a badge to present during reenlistment. A sailor in the Navy received a new Good Conduct Medal for each honorable enlistment completed. The second version of the Navy Good Conduct Medal was issued between 1880 and 1884. The medal was considered a transitional decoration and was the first of the Good Conduct Medals to be worn on a uniform. The medal was phased out by 1885 and a new medal issued between 1885 and 1961. The new medal was a Good Conduct medallion suspended from an all red ribbon. Enlistment bars, denoting each honorable enlistment completed, were pinned on the ribbon as attachments. There was slight oddity during the SpanishAmerican War when the Navy created the Specially Meritorious Service Medal which also had an all red suspension and service ribbon. There were recorded cases of Navy enlisted personnel who were awarded both the Good Conduct Medal and the Specially Meritorious Service Medal who wore two red service ribbons on their Navy service uniforms. This is one of the rare times in the history of U. Military awards that two awards had identical ribbons. The current Navy Good Conduct Medal dates from 1961 and is issued to every active duty sailor who completes three years of honorable and faithful service since 1 January 1996; four years of service were required since 1 November 1963. Additional awards of the Navy Good Conduct Medal are denoted by bronze and silver 5/16-inch service stars. The reverse side of the medal has three words, “FIDELITY ZEAL OBEDIENCE” superimposed in a semicircle. 1928 US Naval officers formal dinner dress uniform. The jacket measures 16 inches shoulder to shoulder, 18 inches armpit to armpit, 25 inches shoulder to cuff and 39 inches long. The pants measure to a size 30 inch waist. Both the jacket and pants have the same name on the tags, both also have some moth damage in spots and the jacket is missing a few buttons.
