This is a good example of a War-Time Japanese Naval Officer’s Parade Dress Sword. It is mounted with a machine made blade that measures 26 1/2 inches in length which remains in near mint condition. The lovely brass D-guard still wears traces of the original gold finish and frames a samé covered hilt with its original wire wrap still tightly in place. Pretty cherry blossoms “sakura” motifs adorn the pommel, the backstrap and the guard face. The black lacquered leather scabbard wears beautiful fittings with coordinating sakura motifs that also continue to wear traces of their gold wash and although the leather is lightly scuffed, the leather does remain in very healthy condition. The original pretty cloth Sword Knot remains present and healthy although its cord is now a bit worn. Overall the Sword measures 33 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. This USMC officer sword was made by the Lilley-Ames Co. Columbus OH and Retailed by The C. New London OH about 1938. I can date it because it has the phenolic grip and slotted head screws. Before WWII USMC swords were only assembled in the USA. The blade of the very good condition sword is twenty-eights inches long. Look at the pictures and ask your questions. Up for sale is a very nice, albeit used, Italian M1909 sword. The bluing is dark and glossy, the sword balances nicely and is in overall good shape- however, there’s a chip out of the palm-swell of wood grip, and the blade shows evidence of old, period sharpening. Devoid of markings save a small boxed MA and serial number. If you have any questions or would like more pictures, please feel free to ask.
