This is an example of a well made Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer’s Sword that due to wear and abuse would make a good candidate for restoration. It is mounted with a gendai blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 1/8 inches in length. The blade shows to have been abused and scratched but could be polished in the right hands. The tang wears the signature ” Yoshinaga saku” on one side and a date “Showa juhachinen ju gatsu” that translates to “1943, October” on the other side. All the hilt fittings remain nice and clean with the hilt wrapping in superb condition. The metal scabbard remains in untouched, uncleaned condition and interestingly continues to wear its old canvas combat covering that wears old twine reinforcement which was added at some time. This is a very nice example of a Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer’s Sword that is mounted with a nice, Seki arsenal blade. The blade wears a cutting edge that measures 26 5/8 inches in length that features a lovely wavy temper line which extends to the tip on either side and has survived in very nice condition with only some very minor surface blemishes. The tang wears a seki stamp and is dated “Showa junana nen which translates to ” year 1942. The hilt wrapping is a bit tattered but does remain tightly in place and all the fittings also remain very nice and do include a desirable cross-hand sarute as well as a slightly faded but nice brown and blue tassel. The metal scabbard has a couple of small dings, nevertheless also remains in very good serviceable condition and wears beautiful fittings. Overall measuring 40 1/8 inches in length. This is an example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a hand-forged blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 1/2 inches in length. The blade remains healthy with some minor surface blemishes and a few tiny nicks to the cutting edge, nevertheless is in nice condition and boasts a lovely large temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The well signed tang wears characters which translate to “BIZEN NAGAMITSU “. Although tight, the hilt is darkly stained however, all the fittings remain nice and the scabbard had some scuffing to the finish but does remain in good serviceable condition and has no dings. It is mounted with an ancestral, streamline signed KOTO blade that wears a cutting edge of 26 3/4 inches in length. The blade has survived in beautiful polished condition with a very nice temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears one hole and although difficult to make out, possibly reads? All the nice quality fittings also remain very nice as does the metal scabbard which remains absolutely perfect in its condition. This is a very nice example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Sword which dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful Seki blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 25 1/4 inches in length. The blade has survived in beautiful original condition with only very minor surface staining that could be cleaned up in the right hand and wears a large, lovely wavy temper line. The tang is signed with a signature that translates to “Ishihara KANENAO saku”. The lovely regulation fittings all remain extremely nice as well. The LIGHTWEIGHT textured wooden scabbard also remains near perfect in condition with just a couple of very small chips to the finish at the edge next to the carrying ring. This is a very nice example of a well made Special Order Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous gendai blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 inches in length and remains in near perfect original polished condition. The blade also wears a beautifully active temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The wonderfully signed tang wears the signature “Chiku Go Ju Mutou Yukihiro ” as well as “Tame Kohara Masao Kun Sei Tan which indicates that “this Sword was forged for Kohara Mosao. On the other side of the tang it is also marked “Kou Ki Ni Sen Ropyaku Yo Nen Shin Syun” which translates to ” 1944 , New Spring”.
