Nice Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword Signed And Dated
This is an example of a well made Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer’s Sword that due to wear and abuse would make a good candidate for restoration. It is mounted with a gendai blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 1/8 inches in length. The blade shows to have been abused and scratched but could be polished in the right hands. The tang wears the signature ” Yoshinaga saku” on one side and a date “Showa juhachinen ju gatsu” that translates to “1943, October” on the other side. All the hilt fittings remain nice and clean with the hilt wrapping in superb condition. The metal scabbard remains in untouched, uncleaned condition and interestingly continues to wear its old canvas combat covering that wears old twine reinforcement which was added at some time.
