This is a very nice example of a Japanese Shin Gunto Sword carried by an Army Officer during World War II. It is mounted with an ancestral, streamline signed KOTO blade that wears a cutting edge of 26 3/4 inches in length. The blade has survived in beautiful polished condition with a very nice temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears one hole and although difficult to make out, possibly reads? All the nice quality fittings also remain very nice as does the metal scabbard which remains absolutely perfect in its condition. This is a good example of a Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with an ancestral blade that wears a cutting edge of 19 inches in length. The blade although is in need of a professional polish, does remain in good condition with just some minor openings but no cracks and no bends. The tang wears two holes and shows to have been shortened leaving only a portion of the signature Omidajo Fuji? The large D-guard remains in nice condition with some of the original gild still present and is enhanced with a silver family mon on the backstrap. The beautiful white rayskin covered hilt is a bit damaged near the peg hole, otherwise remains very healthy in its condition and a small portion of the original twisted wire wrap is still present. This is a very nice example of a large Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword, Type 19. It is mounted with a grooved, machine made blade that measures 27 3/8 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition. The beautifully detailed D-guard has now developed a lovely rich aged patina and frames a hilt that is covered with healthy white rayskin and although only wears a portion of the wire wrap, does remain tightly in place. The plated metal scabbard has survived in very nice condition with just a very minor bit of flaking nevertheless remains in very good serviceable condition and has no dings. This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful and well made Arsenal stainless steel blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 23 7/8 inches in length which remains in near mint condition. The tang wears an arsenal anchor stamp and is signed ” TAKE YASU saku ” on one side and is hand-painted “Kata Oka Tsugu Kazu” which is most likely the name of the original owner. The hilt and all the fittings remain in superb condition as well. The wooden scabbard is black lacquered and also remains in near perfect condition. Overall measuring 36 5/8 inches in length. This is a very nice example of a well made Special Order Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous gendai blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 inches in length and remains in near perfect original polished condition. The blade also wears a beautifully active temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The wonderfully signed tang wears the signature “Chiku Go Ju Mutou Yukihiro ” as well as “Tame Kohara Masao Kun Sei Tan which indicates that “this Sword was forged for Kohara Mosao. On the other side of the tang it is also marked “Kou Ki Ni Sen Ropyaku Yo Nen Shin Syun” which translates to ” 1944 , New Spring”. This is a superb example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Sword which dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a STAR STAMPED Gendai blade with a cutting edge that measures 24 1/2 inches in length and wears a lovely wavy temper line which extends to the tip on either side. The blade has survived in excellent condition with only some minor light surface blemishes. The tang is signed and dated which translates to “Musashi no kuni Akiyuki zou kore” and “Showa juhachinen go gatsu kichi jitsu (1943, May lucky day)”. This is an extremely nice and rare variation example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful Arsenal oil tempered blade that wears a cutting edge of 25 3/4 inches. The blade has survived in very nice original condition with only some very minor surface blemishes and boasts a fabulously active temper line that extends to the tip on both sides. The tang is signed on one side which translates to ” KANE KUNI “. The hilt and all the fittings remain in excellent condition as well however, the beautiful tsuba shows a bit of flaking to its plating along the edge. The scabbard wears a gorgeous shagreen covering that remains very healthy and is mounted with a RARE extended drag. The lower ashi (ring) is an older replacement.
