From an old estate, here is a very nice IMPERIAL REICHSMARINE GERMAN NAVAL DAGGER. Nice fire gold glit hilt finish with open crown pommel and scarce 1919 style crossguard with fouled anchors on both sides and has red felt washer. Celluloid over wood gold wire wrapped grip that has no damage. 7 7/8 inch double fullered polished blade is in excellent condition with no nicks or sharpening. Scabbard has scarce reefer knot bands and is dent free. Reichsmarine Knot is in super condition with no freying (hard to find in this condition). These Helmets were the result of the Free State of Ireland, needing to equip their Army of 10,000 men with a suitable helmet after the hostilities of WW1 ending in 1918. Thus when the Irish Free State Army of 10,000 men was formed, a uniform helmet was required, and the British “Tommy” helmet was not favored. So, the German WW1 design was settled upon. Only 10.021 were produced. To compare: The famous Austrian Berndorf helmet had a production of 140.000!!!!! Since the Treaty of Versailles prohibited Germany from exporting military equipment, the search for helmets ended in Britain. Off course, these Vickers helmets were of british inferior- steel quality, minor to the German models. This very scarce Mod. 27 Irish Vickers helmet is in very good condition. It has been repainted in the original color. Stamp of Vickers 27 in the neck of the helmet. See the details on the pictures! This is an interesting example of a one-of-a-kind Field Made Customized German Trench Knife. It is mounted with a blade that measures 7 3/4 inches in length that reflects good honest wear with crude sharpening as well as a recent cleaning. The copper hilt is very nicely adorned with an eagle head pommel and flowing backstrap that fits snuggly to the thumb’s grip. The copper hilt is also hand-stamped with a name along with some markings on the underside. The simple black lacquered scabbard is lightly scuffed but does remain in good serviceable condition and has no dings. Overall measuring 11 5/8 inches in length. Decorated on both sides of the relief image of a s and an ornament from oak leaves. The head is screwed onto the blade shank and has a flat circular top a button. Cross-cast, from the front side in the form of a flying eagle carrying a s in its claws. On the reverse side has a cross dotted background. All metal parts are cast from aluminum hilt. The scabbard is made of metal, solid, surface covered with small dots. The end of the sheath round, with three embossed belts, decorated with ornaments made of oak leaves. This is a very nice example of a nicely detailed Romantic style German Dagger Dirk made by Gerb. Becker Solingen that dates from the mid 20th Century. It is mounted with a beautiful blade which measures 5 inches in length that remains in very nice original condition and continues to wear very nice, clear markings on either side. The gilded bronze hilt and scabbard are fabulously high relief detailed and remain in excellent condition as well with a rich aged patina now developed.
