Ultra Rare 21st Airship Group FIRST PATTERN DI DUI Massaro 21A1. Three variations exist of this DI, but this is the first and was NOT adopted by the Group. Very, very few of these have survived, as only a small number of the initial batch were ever made. Type 21A1 was probably rejected by the Group because the fimbriation of the fess was too wide. Type 21A2, the approved type, was worn into the early 1930’s but was replaced with 21A3, the entire coat. Of arms and considerably brighter DI. A sample of this type was never approved. Type 21A2 (same but narrow silver cross bars) are occasionally seen and 21A3 (different design) are common. In my 30 years of collecting DI’s I have seen maybe three or four of these.
