Original German Kriegsmarine naval officer’s sword with sheath, either Weimar republic or WWII but reconciled to be more likely produced during the Weimar Republic after researching different design variants of the lion’s head German naval sword and the apparent scarcity of this exact design. Sword has NO OFFENSIVE MARKINGS and is in overall very good condition. Sheath has some light rubbing wear to the leather as well as some minor and superficial white scuffs. Sheath is overall very well intact though the middle and lower brass pieces are missing their staples. Blade is in very nice condition and shows an etched naval motif which remained the same from the WWI imperial period and earlier through the Weimar Republic and WWII. Blade is very well intact but does show some normal tarnishing for it’s age that should be able to be cleaned if the next owner chooses to do so. Blade has 553 serial number as well as ACS with scales mark for the Alcoso maker. Grip has a crack from the upper end to about the middle measuring about 1 1/2 inches. Though the grip is cracked no pieces are falling free or loose at all. Hilt is in excellent condition with anchor and floral motif with lion’s head at the lower end with a green and red jewel for each eye. Hinges on hilt perfectly intact and function as they should. Portapee is present and sturdy and overall in good condition with some obvious fraying. Blade measures 28 1/4 inches long. Entire sword in sheath measures 33 7/8 inches. This is a nice example of a large Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword, Type 19. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade with a cutting edge which measures 27 1/2 inches in length that remains in very nice, original condition with only minor surface blemishes. The beautifully detailed D-guard has now developed a very nice, rich aged patina and features a wonderful silver family mon on its backstrap. The lovely white rayskin covered hilt has survived in healthy condition and with its original twisted wire wrap still nicely place. The plated metal scabbard has some minor flaking and one small ding to the drag, otherwise has survived in very nice serviceable condition as well. Overall measuring 38 5/8 inches in length. This is a superb example of a Large Japanese High Ranking Naval Officer’s D-Guard Sword Pattern 1883. It is mounted with a grooved arsenal made blade which measures 26 1/2 inches in length that remains in very nice original condition. The fabulous gilded D-guard wears all of its original bright gold wash and frames a beautiful white samé covered hilt that has survived in very healthy condition and with its twisted wire wrap still tightly in place. The lovely original red and cream Sword Knot remains very nice in its condition and is mounted upon a gold cloth cording that reflects only minor wear. The outstanding shagreen covered scabbard also remains in near mint condition and wears beautifully detailed coordinating fittings that continue to wear all of their bright gold wash as well. This is a nice example of a Japanese Army NCO Sword, Type 95. It is mounted with a cast aluminum hilt that resembles the Officer’s pattern as well as wears a lovely brass tsuba and remains very nice, continuing to wear much of the original paint. The machine made blade measures 26 3/8 inches in length and remains in nice condition with only some minor surface staining and blemishes. This is a very nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Dress Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that measures 25 3/4 inches in length. The plated blade although remains in good condition, has flaking to the plating on either side. The D-guard is beautifully detailed with pretty cherry blossoms “sakura” motifs that adorn the pommel, the backstrap and the guard face and frame a lovely white samé covered hilt with the original twisted wire wrap still securely in place. The wonderful shagreen covered scabbard has survived beautifully and in very healthy condition. All the lovely fittings continue to wear much of their original gold wash, and although the base fitting has a small ding on one side, they do remain very nice in their condition as well. Overall length 39 1/2. Blade length 33 1/2. Zlatoust stamped blade dated 1921. Guard stamped Lun, reverse “D” 7. Scabbard brass belt attachment stamped 011, 223, 188. Scabbard bands stamped with their respective position marks reverse “K”, II, U. Massive blade in great condition, almost mint, a few scratches, shows it age under the blade washer. 10 back sharpened drop point tip. Guard, grip and pommel in great shape with some age appropriate dings, wear and scuffs. Everything is tight and solid. Scabbard is wood wrapped in linen and ebony lacquered. Crazing throughout, chipped in many places but still in better condition than many I have seen. The drag cap seam is lifted in 2 spots. The mosin nagant bayonet is WW2 vintage, shows. Age but needs to be correctly fitted. The Soviet era sword production was drastically limited by the huge drop in steel production. From 4.3 million tons in 1913 to a mere. 02 million tons in 1921, The year this sword was made. Over 5 million Russian people died the same year as a result of famine. The majority of the swords used in the Reds struggles against the Whites were Imperial era with the cyphers ground off. These were in use from the revolution up until WW2. The small number of Soviet era produced swords is the reason for their high value today. As well as the fact that they are just a beast of a sword. With a low starting price and no reserve. This is a wonderful example of a World War II Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The blade wears a cutting edge that measures 26 9/16 inches in length and remains very nice in its condition with just some minor surface blemishes and a few very tiny nicks to the cutting edge, nevertheless continues to wear a beautiful polish and boasts a gorgeous actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The blade also features a lovely horimono on either side. The tang wears two holes and is signed “Bizen No Kuni Osafune Sukesada Saku”. This Sword wears high quality Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts that also remain very nice condition in their condition as well as is accentuated with a pretty silver family Mon upon one of the menuki. The Regulation scabbard has also survived well with just some light scuffing to the beautiful lacquer finish however has no dings. Overall, the Sword measures 38 3/4 inches in length. The blade has survived in very nice condition with only some minor surface blemishes and boasts a fabulously active wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang is signed which translates to “TANIGAWA ISSHIN “. The hilt and all the fittings also remain very nice, healthy and clean in their condition. The scabbard wears a beautiful shagreen covering that although reflects surface wear, does remain healthy.
