Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches). Antique watches should not be beaten or dropped – because repairs may be expensive. Antique watches are generally NOT waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture. If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust. If your watch becomes wet with any kind of salt water you should immediately immerse or spray your watch with fresh (no-salt) water to remove all the salt from the works before drying the watch completely. Any salt left in the watch will combine with moisture in the air to rust metal components of the movement, case etc. Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring. If you can avoid it do not wind the watch hard. When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement. If you must adjust counter-clockwise make it for small adjustments only i. For minutes, NOT hours. Be careful and gentle when adjusting the movement speed (faster or slower). Don’t make sharp movements, and don’t touch other components in the movement especially the pendulum mechanism. Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches. If the watch is dirty – allow the watch to run down, don’t wind it again until you have it serviced by a qualified watch repair expert. Dust will absorb and remove important lubricants and cause the movement pieces to wear down. To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your Watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth. Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement. Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed. Antique watches generally experience an error of up to 5-7 minutes a day. Any accuracy of +- 5 minutes is very good. I look forward to trading positive feedbacks! Dear Customers, we greatly ask you. When this happens, you and I will both be pleased. You will most assuredly enjoy your new watch and the attention and comments you will receive each time you wear your new watch! Manufactured by the A. From 1928 to 1932. Style 402, Size 38 long. S ee scans for condition. NOT A MILITARY ITEM, BUT IS EARLY AVIATION ITEM, used by many WW1 aviators when barnstorming. A nice item considering the age, see the description details above – see scans. Great subject matter and eye appeal. Weighs around 11 pounds. Shows some typical wear & discoloration due to age, some staining due to age and use. Overall in nice condition, all is intact — camera doesn’t do justice to the rich leather color. Has the original Talon zippers, all work fine. Includes all the original buttons. Also Includes the original belt and full silk pile lining. Some cracking in leather, especially at the lower sleeves (see close-up scans #11 left sleeve and #12 right sleeve). Leather at bottom of pant legs has cracking also. This vintage leather flight suit was made by A. Aviation Clothing (see intact tag picture inside left chest area), between 1928 and 1932. It has a mouton collar, an offset closure, belted waist, large map pocket with sharply scalloped pocket flap, thigh pockets and a full silk pile lining. It is a size 38, and is their model 402. The suit has the original Talon Fastener Co. The zips are on the sleeves, legs, the chest and on two pass through pockets so the aviator could access his pants pockets. The fly opening is accomplished by a snap on the zipper tape. The large collar has a hook closure at the neck and a three button throat latch under the collar, to really secure it during open cockpit flight. While not his suit, Charles Lindbergh was a prominent endorser of Spaldings flight suits of this era. We strive for 5-star service , even though this is just a hobby for us. Looks to be never worn, but both ends of the chin strap have broken. May be a size 7, but not marked. The original flat OD paint with the cork added to further cut the reflectiveness of this jewel is just about perfect. The liner leather when I received this was so dried out, I was afraid it would crack further, so I carefully treated it with Pecard’s Antique Leather treatment. This treatment stopped any further damage and softened it up, but it did darken the leather. This is a good product, but if it is applied to an average grade of leather which was improperly stored and tanned to begin with (some government contractors cut corners to meet competitive contract prices), it does darken it. The chin strap is a beautiful shade of old khaki. The item “M1917A1 U. S. Kelly Style Helmet” is in sale since Tuesday, December 05, 2017. A variety of a unique pith helmets from various times and places in the world. Helmets are all vintage, used and in various conditions of state.
