These KNIL-helmets were manufactured (post-1941, pre-1945) in USA (Milwaukee Saddlery Company, Milsco) after the occupation of Holland by the Germans and was used against the Japanese in 1941. The helmet had been in use post-WW2 by the civil defense in the Netherlands. It still has its original KNIL liner, but one leather pad was replaced by a Dutch M27/38 type. The other 2 pads are missing the pouches to be filled for size adjustment. The chin strap is the M27/38 type (the KNIL chin strap was broader). So far all is original, the restoration consisted of adding a sun protection, refinishing in the original color, and refitting the original liner with new rivets. No Marks or signs. In 1938, the Romanian army bought 300,000 helmets from the Dutch company Verblifa. It was the Dutch M34 model. On the front a copper emblem was soldered with the double’C’ of King Carol and the Romanian crown. This helmet is an original restored relic from the battlefield. Because most of the emblems have been removed in and after WW2, this is a very rare helmet. The helmet belongs to every serious helmet collection. For sale is a Polish M31-36 or M35 helmet, built up from an original helmet and chin strap from another WW2 helmet. These liners are very similar to those used in the Polish M35. Poland developed these helmets to fit the new 1936 uniform. Nowadays they are only for sale at high prices. The helmet was restored from a faintly oxidized condition, but with a big crack in the neck and 2 small cracks in the brim. I gave it a smooth anti-reflex paint.
