This is a very nice example of a Large Variation of a Japanese Cavalry Officer’s Sword, Type 19 and would have been in service all the way up to World War II. It is mounted with a plated machine made large, beefy blade that measures 28 1/2 inches in length by 1 3/16 inches at the widest. The blade remains in very nice original condition with only some minor surface blemishes. It wears a very nicely detailed pommel which frames a lovely horn hilt that although only a portion of the twisted wire remains, has survived in very healthy condition. The hilt also continues to wear much of the original bright gold wash and the backstrap features a lovely floral motif. The plated scabbard has a couple of small dings and some light flaking, otherwise also remains in very good serviceable condition. Overall measuring 36 3/4 inches in length. This is a nice and desirable example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful streamline stainless steel forged blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 24 7/8 inches in length and from tip to tip measures 33 1/8 inches in length. The blade has survived in very nice condition with only some minor surface blemishes. The well signed tang wears characters which translate to Fujiwara Mitsunaga motte? All the Army fittings remain in very nice condition as well. The wooden scabbard continues to wear its combat leather covering which is now a bit worn. Overall measuring 37 5/8 inches in length. This is a good example of a Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with an ancestral blade that wears a cutting edge of 19 inches in length. The blade although is in need of a professional polish, does remain in good condition with just some minor openings but no cracks and no bends. The tang wears two holes and shows to have been shortened leaving only a portion of the signature Omidajo Fuji? The large D-guard remains in nice condition with some of the original gild still present and is enhanced with a silver family mon on the backstrap. The beautiful white rayskin covered hilt is a bit damaged near the peg hole, otherwise remains very healthy in its condition and a small portion of the original twisted wire wrap is still present. This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful and well made Arsenal stainless steel blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 23 7/8 inches in length which remains in near mint condition. The tang wears an arsenal anchor stamp and is signed ” TAKE YASU saku ” on one side and is hand-painted “Kata Oka Tsugu Kazu” which is most likely the name of the original owner. This is a very nice example of a well made Special Order Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous gendai blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 inches in length and remains in near perfect original polished condition. The blade also wears a beautifully active temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The wonderfully signed tang wears the signature “Chiku Go Ju Mutou Yukihiro ” as well as “Tame Kohara Masao Kun Sei Tan which indicates that “this Sword was forged for Kohara Mosao. On the other side of the tang it is also marked “Kou Ki Ni Sen Ropyaku Yo Nen Shin Syun” which translates to ” 1944 , New Spring”. This is an original very large Garrison flag given to Imperial Japanese 1st Fleet Admiral Seizo Kobayashi from the crew of the battleship Kongo. Admiral Kobayashi was the 1st Fleet Admiral from 1931 to 1933 and later went on to be the 17th Governor General of Taiwan. He served on the Kongo early in his career as a gunnery Officer, so the flag was probably given to him by the crew upon his retirement from the military. The flag is very large and has three panels sewn together with heavy leather tabs on one side, it measures 12 feet 8 inches by 8 feet 5 inches. There are some stains on the flag in several spots, but no holes or rips, it is in excellent condition for its age. This is a great piece of military history. All our items come from estate sales, yard sales, or places that we have traveled. All Japanese items came from Japan. I lived in Japan for 8 years and collected several nice pieces. We are a smoke free home, but many of the items were acquired from homes that may have smoked. This is a very nice example of a World War II Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The very fine antique Shinto, unsigned blade wears a cutting edge of 25 1/2 inches in length and from tip to tip it measures 32 inches. The blade does wear a visibly beautiful actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side and remains in untouched, uncleaned condition with only some minor surface blemishes. This blade has survived in very healthy condition and is a very nice quality made antique blade with no flaws, no bends and no cracks. The Sword wears Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts which all remain in very nice condition as well. The Regulation scabbard also remains very nice with only one very tiny ding.
