Outside I repainted it according to the same helmet in my collection, which has it’s original paint. The first helmets were produced in Sweden, then in Norway by the Raufoss A. This helmet was manufactured in the Netherlands and is slightly different than the M34. In good original condition. The Bronze lion is original and never removed. It has the original paint from production. The liner is in original complete condition but worn out. The chin strap is shortened for more comfort. See also my other advertisements. These Helmets were the result of the Free State of Ireland, needing to equip their Army of 10,000 men with a suitable helmet after the hostilities of WW1 ending in 1918. Thus when the Irish Free State Army of 10,000 men was formed, a uniform helmet was required, and the British “Tommy” helmet was not favored. So, the German WW1 design was settled upon. Only 10.021 were produced. To compare: The famous Austrian Berndorf helmet had a production of 140.000!!!!! Since the Treaty of Versailles prohibited Germany from exporting military equipment, the search for helmets ended in Britain. Off course, these Vickers helmets were of british inferior- steel quality, minor to the German models. This very scarce Mod. 27 Irish Vickers helmet is in very good condition. It has been repainted in the original color. Stamp of Vickers 27 in the neck of the helmet. See the details on the pictures! Czech M30 Spanish Civil War. Helmet of Franco’s Nationalists. This is a real good example of a Czech Model 1930. These were made almost exclusively for export. I know some of these went to Africa as I have seen a picture of an Ethiopian soldier in the custody of Italians and he was wearing one. The majority of them went to the Spanish Republic. This particular helmet is one that was captured by Franco’s fascist forces and used on the Nationalist side. Material shortages on both side made the re-issuing of the enemy’s equipment pretty much common practice. She’s been repainted only one time and has been re-linered. Odd thing is, is that the liner is a Spanish copy of the original Czech one. Flat Spanish rivets hold it place. It’s also got a Spanish chinstrap. The badge bracket on the front tells us proof positive that she’s been “Frankanized”. She’s coming right out of my personal collection.
