Very nice Brigadier Generals, Adj. General’s evening dress with medals. Named to James Alexander Ulio who retired as a major General. The jacket itself is in excellent shape. His name , as a Colonel, is on the tailors tag as well as the date 1931. The mini medal rack exactly fits the loops sewn to the jacket. There is also an envelope with his name and address. Enlisted at Fort Keogh, Mont. 1, 1900; served in Company M, 10th Infantry, to discharge. Grades: Corporal, (date not given); Battalion Sergeant Major, (date not given). 9, 1904, as a Battalion Sergeant Major, to accept commission. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, on Oct. 10, 1904; 1st Lieutenant, March 11, 1911; Captain, July 1, 1916; assigned to 23rd Infantry, to Aug. 15, 1917; Division Adjutant, 29th Division, to Feb. 26, 1918; Army General Staff College, AEF, to May 31, 1918; Assistant Chief of Staff (G-1), 4th Corps, to Dec. 14, 1918; Duty with Adjutant General, General Headquarters, AEF, to Sept. 2, 1919; Near East Relief Commission, to discharge. 19, 1917; Lieutenant Colonel, Sept. Principal stations: Syracuse, N. AEF; overseas from Feb. 26, 1918, to discharge. Discharged on April 19, 1920, from emergency commission only. Reverted to Regular Army status. Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services. As Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1, of the 4th Army Corps, he showed marked organizing and administrative ability. By his tireless efforts and ceaseless energy he contributed in a large degree to the successes achieved by the 4th Army Corps, in the Toul sector and in the battles of the St. Later he handled with great success the evacuation and feeding of French civilians in the occupied territory recovered from the enemy, rendering invaluable services to the AEF. Very Nice Japanese General Grade Army Officer Kyu Gunto Sword Wwii
This is an exquisite example of a rare and seldom encountered Japanese General’s Grade Army Officer Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous machine made fullered blade which measures 26 inches in length that remains in very nice original condition with only some very minor surface blemishes. The gorgeous intricately detailed gilded brass guard remains absolutely beautiful in its condition with much of its original bright gold wash still present and frames a lovely shell hilt that has also survived perfectly in its condition. The lovely plated metal scabbard, although has some light flaking with minor surface oxidation near the drag along with a couple of very minor dings, does remain in very nice serviceable condition as well.. 1934 US Marines Evening Dress Jacket from USMC Brigadier General John Groff
Fully marked tag dates jacket to 12/26/1934 which coincides with his time spent in Quantico, VA. The epaulettes were found with jacket but may have been added at a later date in Groff’s career, since the leather straps are a tad short to fasten to jacket and safety pins were used to hold in place. No pants were found, just the jacket. Condition of jacket is very good with no moth holes, no smell and very clean. The inside collar red fabric has a partial tear and will need to be re-sewn/repaired(see close up photo). Outer gold applied collar will need to be re-sewn in a few areas, as it is loose in spots. John Groff (February 14, 1890 October 2, 1990) was a Brigadier General in the United States Marine Corps whose military career spanned from 1912 to 1946. Groff was a highly decorated veteran of World War I, earning the Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and Purple Heart medals. He also participated in the Banana Wars (in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Nicaragua), and World War II. At the time of his death in 1990 at age 100, BG Groff was the oldest surviving general officer in the Marine Corps.
