This is a very nice example of a beautiful high ranking Japanese Army General Officer Dress Parade Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a lovely machine made blade that measures 29 1/8 inches in length which has survived in very nice original condition with just some minor surface blemishes. The outstanding guard wears an intricately detailed backstrap which includes sakura blossoms and frames a vibrant, colorful hilt with its twisted wire wrap still tightly in place. The plated metal scabbard has some minor flaking as well as a few small tiny dings, nevertheless does remain in very good serviceable condition. Overall measuring 35 3/4 inches in length. I took this ensemble in trade on some Rare insignia. Everything on the Tunic Hat and pants are 1920 period originals. The tunic is Depot marked in the sleeve and is size 4 S. The EGA devices have been on it so long that they are indented about half way through the collar see scan. The pants are depot marked and stamped size 2 M and are made of some of the heaviest wool I have ever felt. The white dress belt and buckle are correct for the 1920 period also. The hat is the very rare 1922 pattern with a correct 1920 Pattern EGA attached. This Visor Hat is shown in Roger Benders Book Equipping-The Corp because of its rare nature. The Tunic, Pants, and the Belt are all named to a man named S. Cohen and the Visor Hat is named to J. This is not unusual because everything was Government owned including the EGAs and were reissued as long as they were not damaged. The tunic pants and hat all have light moth tracking but no holes that I could find. The hat sweat band has a section with stitching missing but still is complete and not in need of repair. If you would like to own a really nice 85-90 year old USMC uniform Group give this a second glance. According to my research, these are from the early 20th century… Condition: Very nice, with a few loose areas (see photos). 7″ L x 5 1/2″ W x 3 1/2 Fringe Length. Made by The Wm. Measures 19″ total length x 7″ Total Width x 5 1/2 Total Height. With the exception of the areas where black “fur” is rubbed off. Black exterior isn’t metal, but some kind of hard pressed material. Brass corners, hinges, latches. Purplish Velvet interior (see photos). Name on latches is Corbin. Measures 19″ x 8″ x 7. Definitely used, but in good vintage condition.
