Virginia Volunteers/ Virginia Militia M1902 Dress Frock Coat. Colonel & Aide de Camp to Governor E. See photo of Register Officers Virginia Volunteers Officer listed as “Colonel & Aide de Camp, staff of Governor & Commander & Chief” This identified officer I. Val Parham was a prominent citizen of Petersburg Virginia. He was instrumental in getting Camp Lee established in Petersburg for WWI. He lost his right hand and possibly part of his arm around 1913. The shoulder cord is on the left shoulder as found. He served as Mayor of Petersburg, and was City Treasurer up until his death in 1961. Recently found a photo of Gov. Trinkle and his staff of Colonels. Val Parham is the fourth man from the right end. Note that he is standing in back of two men to hide his missing arm, which did not stop him from his vast achievements. The stahh are listed by name and numbered for easy reference. I believe this is the last Governor`s term where a staff of Colonels were used. The documentation, including staff photo and obituary listing his accomplishments will be included with uniform. Armpit to armpit 21″, sleeve from armpit to end 18 1/4″, shoulder seam to shoulder seam 18″, seam to seam across back 16″, length from top of collar to end 39. Coat has a few moth holes, but nothing major. One of the bullion Colonel eagles is missing from the left shoulder knot. The tip of the bullion shoulder cord is broken off. All Virginia state seal buttons on the double breasted front are intact and back marked Superior Quality as well as 4 on the back. The gold bullion shoulder knots are intact and the army eagle buttons are back marked H. The dark blue insert on the high standing collar is worn and fraying. The 5 strand heavy bullion quatrefoil of a Colonel on sleeves of dark blue wool uniform. PLEASE read descriptions and view all pictures carefully.
