M1916 Field Artillery Harness, Wheel Horse. BREAST COLLAR complete with NECK STRAP, ZINC COLLAR PAD and NECK YOKE STRAP. Collar Pad has HOOK to engage D ring on pommel of Cavalry / Artillery McClellan Saddle. All stampings are of Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot, post WW1 successor to Rock Island Arsenal for the manufacter of US military harness and saddlery. Has not be put together from various pieces. I took it apart for inspection and cleaning, has not be reassembled. Leather is undamaged, still should be softened some more to make more supple. Iron is brown patinaed. GIRTH, Training Saddle Model 1916, M1926 and M1930 Was the first type to be used on the M1928 McClellan Cavalry Saddle, saber straps and saddlebag side straps were run under the outer strand and then buckled, this was not satisfactory so D rings were added in manufacture for girths intended for use on M1928 McClellans. Will fit the M1917 Officer’s Saddle and US Marquis Officer Saddle. Us stamped US JQMD with a 1933 or’38 date. Each buckle is stamped “SOLID NICKEL”. Three of the four Spacer Strips are damaged, see pictures. The web material is intact and sound as are the buckles and their billets. See pictures for details and condition. A RARE AND A VERY GOOD PAIR OF US CAVALRY STIRRUP STRAPS FOR THE US ARMY 1928 MODIFIED McCLELLAN SADDLE. THEY ARE MARKED ON THE TIP “US JQMD 1940″ ON ONE BUT ON THE OTHER THE DATE IS NOT LEGIBLE. VERY LATE DATE, JUST BEFORE THE US CAVALRY DISMOUNT. THE 1928 McCLELLAN HAD ROLLER SINGLE SIDED BUCKLE AND DID NOT HAVE A TWIST AS THE 1904 MODEL STIRRUPS DO. THIS PAIR IS ORIGINAL AND FULL LENGTH. THEY ARE VERY STIFF AND HAVE BEEN STORED FOR MANY YEARS ALL COILED UP. THEY WILL NEED SEVERAL APPLICATION OF YOUR FAVORITE LEATHER TREATMENT. THE LEATHER IS QUITE DARK BROWN.
