This is a good example of a Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a hand-forged blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 11/16 inches in length. The blade, although shows forging flaws along with some light scratches, does remain in nice condition with a lovely actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears one hole and is unsigned. All the very nice fittings have also survived well, including the very nice substantially weighted tsuba and the hilt wrapping is tight with only a little fraying. The metal scabbard reflects battle fatigue with scuffing and a couple of hits near the drag, nevertheless does remains in very good servicable condition. Overall measuring 39 5/8 inches in length. This is estate sale find – a very nice example of pre-WWII (1937) Japanese Shin Gunto Army Officer’s Katana sword. The blade is in very good condition with only some minor surface blemishes. The tang is signed on both sides. The cutting edge is 26 inches in length. All fittings are original and in very nice clean condition. The metal scabbard in a very good condition as well. This is an exquisite example of a rare and seldom encountered Japanese General’s Grade Army Officer Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a fabulous machine made fullered blade which measures 26 inches in length that remains in very nice original condition with only some very minor surface blemishes. The gorgeous intricately detailed gilded brass guard remains absolutely beautiful in its condition with much of its original bright gold wash still present and frames a lovely shell hilt that has also survived perfectly in its condition. The lovely plated metal scabbard, although has some light flaking with minor surface oxidation near the drag along with a couple of very minor dings, does remain in very nice serviceable condition as well.. The tang is signed with a signature that translates to Fujiwara Kanenaga Motte? Seitan saku kore and on the other side? Tasugi Shinichi (most likely the name for whom it was made). Kanenaga is also known as the originator of stainless steel blades. The beautiful nice quality Military fittings all remain in very nice, clean condition as well. The LIGHTWEIGHT textured wooden scabbard also remains near perfect in its condition with just a couple of very tiny chips to the finish. Overall measuring 39 inches in length. Rare and seldom encountered to find in any condition, this is a very nice example of a LIGHTWEIGHT Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 30 3/8 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition with only some minor surface blemishes. The Shin Gunto style hilt has some light staining nevertheless remains tight and sturdy. The metal scabbard also remains very nice, however is missing the base fitting which could be replaced in the right hands. Overall measuring 39 1/4 inches in length. This is a good example of a Late War Japanese Naval Officer’s Kai Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a lovely Arsenal stainless steel blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 23 1/2 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with only some minor surface scratches and the tang wears an arsenal anchor stamp. The hilt and all the fittings remain in very nice original condition as well. The wooden scabbard is black textured finished and also remains very nice with just a little minor scuffing.
