This is the traditional design authorized by regulation and a copy of the design authorized by the Government when they created the “From Official Die” concept in the mid 20’s. This is the very early style of Submariner’s badge which came into being in it’s metal form in the early 1920’s-1924, I believe. This badge is hallmarked “Myrgold” and is a very scarce badge. Silver USN Airship half wing by Whitehead & Hoag in pin back. Precisely why this 1/2 wing is silver, I cannot say although I have heard that silver half wings were used by enlisted crew members on their Class A uniforms. I have not, however, been able to verify this. Nonetheless, this is a beautifully die struck wing in pin back with the appropriate “J” style catch used in that era. It is hallmarked by Whitehead & Hoag. This is an exquisitely fletched wing pattern.
