This is a very nice example of a seldom encountered Japanese Flag Pole Guidon Standard that dates from the World War II Era. It is all metal constructed and comes in two sections that screw together for additional length. The lovely brass finial is nicely detailed with three cherry blossoms and the black lacquered finished posts are in a ribbed motif. All remains in very nice original condition with only one of the small flag rings now missing which could be easily replaced. At the base there is an original maker’s tag still present. This is a very nice example of an important Presentation Grade U. This sword belonged to Brigadier General Charles Yawkey Banfill, born in 1897 and died in 1966. This Sword, at the time Banfill was a Captain, was presented to him by the Enlisted Men of the 29th Div. Aviation in Appreciation of Thoughtful Consideration as inscribed upon the scabbard throat. It is mounted with a wonderfully etched blade that measures 32 1/8 inches in length which remains in very nice original condition with all the beautiful etching and bright gold still present on either side. The blade is also etched Capt. Inside a panel on one side. It wears a multi-branched guard with an eaglehead pommel that is intricately detailed that remains in very nice condition as well. The composite hilt is a bit faded with age, nevertheless does remains tight and sturdy. The plated metal scabbard wears beautiful coordinating fittings with the presentation inscription on the backside of the top fitting and overall the scabbard also remains nice and in very good serviceable condition. This is a good example of a Dutch Colonial Police Klewang Cutlass Short Sword. It is mounted with a slightly curved, clipped point blade that measures 24 5/8 inches in length which although shows to have received a cleaning, does remain in nice condition with nice markings on either side of the ricasso and only light stains. The hilt wears brass riveted wooden grips that are healthy and remain nice and tight and the guard continues to wear its lovely blued finish as well as its brass police tag. This is a very nice example of a Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer’s Sword that is mounted with a nice, Seki arsenal blade. The blade wears a cutting edge that measures 26 5/8 inches in length that features a lovely wavy temper line which extends to the tip on either side and has survived in very nice condition with only some very minor surface blemishes. The tang wears a seki stamp and is dated “Showa junana nen which translates to ” year 1942. The hilt wrapping is a bit tattered but does remain tightly in place and all the fittings also remain very nice and do include a desirable cross-hand sarute as well as a slightly faded but nice brown and blue tassel. The metal scabbard has a couple of small dings, nevertheless also remains in very good serviceable condition and wears beautiful fittings. Overall measuring 40 1/8 inches in length. This is a rare and seldom encountered Large Japanese Police High Ranking Officer Sword in Kyu Gunto mount. It wears a very nice, large, Arsenal made blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 27 3/4 inches in length. The blade remains in nice condition with a gorgeous actively wavy temper line, some minor surface blemishes and a few very small nicks to the cutting edge. The tang is signed??? Kanemichi saku” and is dated “Kigen roppyaku ni nen (Year 1943). The large Kyu Gunto hilt also remains very nice with a very healthy, lovely white samé grip covering and the pommel backstrap is adorned with a high relief Police badge emblem. The plated metal scabbard has some flaking and a couple of very minor, tiny dings, nevertheless remains in very nice serviceable condition and fits the blade snuggly.
