This sale is for a rare vintage U. Army M-1904 leather saddle scabbard. The scabbard was produced under military contract by the Lawrence Co. Portland, Oregon, on or near 1917 – 1918. The scabbard was produced to accommodate the Army M-1903 Springfield rifle. The scabbard has the “LAWRENCE” mark and also S. Which could be the inspectors initials. This leather scabbard does not have the two tie down straps or belts. The condition of this scabbard is very good. All of the stitching is tight and complete, the brass rivets and copper washers are also tight and in good condition. The hole at the bottom of the scabbard still contains the brass grommet. This is an excellent condition Springfield Armory Heavy Checkered Early 1903 National Match Buttplate. It has the correct early Dark Parkerized finish. It has little to no wear on the top, bottom and inside from being mounted on a rifle stock but saw little to no use given its overall excellent condition. This is the early version prior to Springfield Armory adding drawing numbers to this style of buttplate. Springfield Armory later added two different sets of drawing numbers to the rear inside area of the buttplate to differentiate between National Match and Standard Military issued Heavy Checkered buttplates. This would be correct for any Springfield Armory National Match Rifle. These were also used on standard rifles and were highly sought after by the Marines during WWII for use on their issued and arsenal overhauled rifles. Due to the shortage, some USMC buttplates during the WWII time frame have homemade punch marked type checkering to help stabilize the rifle during firing. Here is a rare one, a 1903 National Match Stock. This has the correct drawing number of D1836 which is specific to national match stocks. This is the early pre WWII c stock. Has nice markings and the remnants of a cartouche, also has remnants of a rack number on side of butt section. Has the beginning of a small crack at top behind tang and another behind trigger guard, these are very small and are stabil and solid and have not been repaired.
