Sanders received his first GCM while serving aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa. The clasps are all engraved and dated as follows: CG-412 6/30/39 (CG-412 was a 81 foot patrol boat); Hunter Liggett 9/30/1942 (the USS Hunter Liggett was a Coast Guard manned attack transport that earned four WWII battle stars including for Guadalcanal); PSC-9 9/30/45; San Juan District 9/30/1948. I found a little information on Sanders on-line; he served aboard the USS Wyoming for gunnery instruction from 31 December 1942 until 24 January 1943. Sanders passed away in 1974 and is interred in Silver Brook. The Navy muster rolls include Sanders’ service number which can be used fro further research. Rare five enlistment USCG medal.
