Gold-edged red enamel Maltese cross with gold-edged white enamel panels on each arm, with ball-tipped gold finials, with gold and red and green enamel wreath between the arms, on gold crown suspension with red and green enamel jewels; the face with a deep red enamel circular central medallion bearing the crowned cipher of Prince Charles III, founder of the Order within a white enamel ring inscribed in silver letters PRINCEPS ET PATRIA (Latin = Prince and Country); the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the gold-edged red and white enamel lozenges of the arms of the Grimaldi family, rulers of Monaco, within a white enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters DEO JUVANTE (Latin = With Gods help); small chips to the red enamel of some of the points, a small hairline crack and minute chip to the white enamel of the ring of the reverse and a small loss of white enamel below the letter E in DEO (see illustrations); on original ribbon with rosette denoting an award of the officer class. The Order was founded by Prince Charles III on 15 March 1858 to be awarded for meritorious service to the prince and state of Monaco. CONDITION: Has some enamel chips. Some gemstones on a bottom of crown are missing. Made of 18 carats GOLD!
