CLASSIC SWORD SUDANESE KASKARA Circa 1930 Classic Similar Medieval European
A Classic Sudanese Kaskara at an affordable price. Steel, Leather and textile, circa 1930. This classic design was reputed to be based on medieval European designs and some were said to have old European blades. Many were brought to the UK after the battle of Omdurman. This piece dates from the 1930’s. I go it with a chest of French Marine Coloniale items from the 1930’s and 40’s, but no associated name. I have not done any restoration, just oiled the blade. The latter had patches of corrosion, but would clean up nicely. Thse scabbard has some splitting along the entire length were the cord pulling the leather sections of the scabbard together is coming away. Classic flared’tail’ to end of scabbard, steerl cross guard with languets, leather pommel to hilt.
