AH 1318 AD 1939 AFGHANISTAN ISLAMIC ARABIC MILITARY BRAVERY MOHAMMED ZAHIR SHAH SILVER MEDAL RARE. Circular silver medal ; the face with a central medallion bearing the tughra of King Mohammed Zahir Shah imposed on a trophy of arms, the arms of Afghanistan above, scales of justice, books and pens of the law below; the reverse with a wreath of bound sheaves of corn and dated 1318 in Arabic. The medal was instituted in AD1939 by King Mohammed Zahir Shah who succeeded to the throne in 1933 aged 19 following the assassination of his father, King Mohammed Nadir Shah, and reigned until 1973 when, with the fall of the Afghan monarchy, the award presumably became defunct.
