Here is a rare one, a 1903 National Match Stock. This has the correct drawing number of D1836 which is specific to national match stocks. This is the early pre WWII c stock. Has nice markings and the remnants of a cartouche, also has remnants of a rack number on side of butt section. Has the beginning of a small crack at top behind tang and another behind trigger guard, these are very small and are stabil and solid and have not been repaired. NOS – 1903 Springfield National Match C Stock. This is NOT a common WWII Era Replacement C stock made by Keystone, this is an original Springfield Production National Match D1836 drawing number C Stock that was never used by the Government on a rifle. The stock came with the correct National Match heavy checkered buttplate and blued finish lower swivel in place. There are a few small scuffs of paint where it leaned against a wall, chair, or closet. The cutoff cutout is clearly marked “S” and “9”, the underside of the handguard is marked “8”. The handguard has more scratches and scuffs but appears to also be NOS and unused by the military. Since this stock was never issued, it does not have a serial number stamped forward of the drawing number, there is no Proof stamp on the grip, and no cartouche. This is not a sanded or refinished stock, it is as close to new as you will ever find. This stock would also be correct on an original M1941 sniper. An excellent opportunity for a proper restoration of an original late National Match rifle or M1941. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns as I sell everything with no return. Gun Model: Springfield 1903 or M1 Garand (later used in WWII). The left ricasso is marked with “S A”, bomb, and “1921”. The right side is marked U. The Scabbard is marked “RIA / 1921″ on the front of the top strap and “RIA”, what appears to be “1909” and T. On the back of the main body. Description: This is a Pattern M1905 that was made in 1921, after WWI, with a 1921 dated Rock Island Armory leather wrapped and leather tipped wood scabbard. The blade measures 15 7/8″ long, OAL is 20 1/2″. Overall Condition: The metal of the bayonet has a blue finish on the blade, the guard, hilt and pommel are parkerized and according to our research, these early items would have been all Parkerized. The blade metal has been refinished, the other surfaces appear original, it was probably done by an arsenal, perhaps for WWII use. The metal shows cleaned erosion and imperfections under the finish, along with a few areas of erosion through the current finish. The blade is semi-sharp but there are no indications that it was sharpened after refinishing; the cutting edge has some waiver in its line. The surfaces show scattered scuff marks and a few infrequent darkened patina areas. The cross guard has scuffs, rub wear and areas of patina. The grips are the correct later semi-grooved type, which show a few light marks. There are no cracks or major damages. The bayonet is in Fine condition. The scabbard is leather wrapped with a brown leather tip and brass hanger, the canvas and leather are roughed and discolored, the material remains strong with small losses, the hanger has natural patina, also found as verdigris on the rivets. The leather is leaching white color, as natural of the fats escaping over time. For its age and role in world history, this lot has survived quite well.
