Pre-WWII German Hunting Shooting Dagger, Hirschfanger Double Engraved w Scabbard. Blade is unmarked but features etched hunting scenes on both sides. Item is used and has signs of wear. There are some scratches and scuffs on the hardware. Blade has a few areas with some light patina. Blade is sturdy and straight. Blade edge is not sharp. The bone handle is free of any chips or cracks. There is some damage around the edges of the acorn ornaments on the handle. Handle is secure and not loose. The decorative guard is loose. Scabbard brass has some scuffs and patina. The leather is in fair visual condition, but is dried out and the sewing is deteriorated on the back. Includes only items pictured. 1933 Polish Military Soldier Shooting Award Mantle Desk Statue Figure Krasnik! We have an interesting 1933 Polish Military Soldier Statue! The metal statue stands on a marble base. The base has two engraved plaques, the engraving is in Polish, so we have tried translating the best we could. The smaller plaque on the front reads (this is more scratched in): zdobyla przez k. Oghisko krasnik dnia 11. We think translated it means: a transit award of the commander of the poviat poviat for the best team shooting in Krasnik.. Won by the kpw oghisko krasnik of the day 1933. So we believe this may have been some type of military shooting award from the 1930s. If anyone can help further with the translation it would be greatly appreciated. A great piece of military history! About 10 1/4″ tall, the base is 6″ long. Made of metal, and marble. There are a few small nicks along the bottom edge of the marble base (nothing serious). Pre war Lithuanian armed forces shooting badge. “GERAM AULIUI” (GOOD SHOOTER). Lithuanian coat of arms- VYTIS is in the middle in red enamel with crossed rifles on sides. The badge was designed in 1931 year. Was made two modification of the badge: white metal and silver (higher award). This one is made of silver. Awarded to soldiers for good shooting with rifle results. From 1931 to 1940 year. (white metal badges were manufactured in Lithuania). There are only small number survived. This one is from my personal collection. I use to heavily collect marksmanship related items, but have decided the thin the herd and refine the focus lately. Group includes the named Good Conduct Medal, Divisional Match Badge, and Marine Corps Match badge. The Good Conduct is officially engraved, however the shooting badges are now. Fortunately, the Marine hand-etched his initials on the rear of both, and’DWC’ can be seen. According to the Muster Rolls, this Marine was a trumpeter in the band who served at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Parris Island. He metaled at Quantico in 1926 with the Elliot Trophy Team, however their team did not win the cup. I have attached an image of the entry in the June 1926 Muster Rolls. These early badges don’t appear often, and it’s even tougher to find attributed badges that weren’t engraved. Nice little research project… I can’t imagine many bandsmen were metaled in the matches!
