Finnish Bayonet M/28 by Hackman with Hackman Black Painted Fluted Scabbard. This is a Civil Guard Bayonet for the M28 Mosin Nagant Rifle. The M/28 Bayonet was dipped in bluing thus why it has the brown line on the Ricasso. Many Hackman M28 Bayonets have this brown line line removed due to the excessive polishing. This one has not been touched. A fine example of a Finnish Civil Guard Hackman Bayonet. The civil guard inspectors mark =S= is on the opposite side of the cross guard from the Hackman Maker Mark on the Ricasso. This unusual but not unheard of. Civil Guard District 84471 is on the hilt without the S. This was common for later Civil Guard items. 03 is on the pommel. Up for sale is a vintage US Navy Officers Sword & scabbard that has an engraved blade and the officers name inscribed into the blade. The blade is stamped Made in USA but I dont see a makers mark – could be engraved in the blade. The blade width is 3/4 and the fish skin type handle is plastic, and the engraving and condition lead me to believe this was a sword from WWI or WWII. The scabbard is marked in a couple of places 84. Rare Uruguayan Model 1900 Bayonet w/ Scabbard. Rare bayonet, FN Mauser rifle. Blade and scabbard are from French 1886 Lebel, with new quillioned cross guard and a brass hilt. Serial 818 on top of hilt is only marking. This is one of the half rivet versions with only partial rivet holding the crossguard and pommel, there is also a full rivet version. Stains on hilt are superficial only. I make every possible effort to accurately and closely describe items including condition, age, and any other pertinent information but it is my opinion. This swords has no visible markings but Im sure it was made in Mexico, most likely in the mid-1800s. A friend collected it in Mexico almost 40 years ago. I have seen many Mexican swords with the grip and guards covered in leather like this. I believe the sword was used up thru the Mexican Revolution. Gorilla soldiers that served with Pancho Villa and other bandit military leaders used whatever arms that were available including many Spanish Colonial swords. They almost always carried their swords on their saddles during the Mexican Revolution. The custom well made leather scabbard is in nice shape, not stiff. It was designed to be attached to the saddle. When attached to the saddle the metal guards and grips would become so hot in the bright sun and extreme heat soldiers could not hold the swords, so the leather covering was a common sense fix. I have owned a dozen like this. The sword is overall 34 the grip is tight. Thats about all I know about it. We described things as best we can but we are not experts in every field. You may know more about the item then we do. You are the judge as to quality and value.
