This swords has no visible markings but Im sure it was made in Mexico, most likely in the mid-1800s. A friend collected it in Mexico almost 40 years ago. I have seen many Mexican swords with the grip and guards covered in leather like this. I believe the sword was used up thru the Mexican Revolution. Gorilla soldiers that served with Pancho Villa and other bandit military leaders used whatever arms that were available including many Spanish Colonial swords. They almost always carried their swords on their saddles during the Mexican Revolution. The custom well made leather scabbard is in nice shape, not stiff. It was designed to be attached to the saddle. When attached to the saddle the metal guards and grips would become so hot in the bright sun and extreme heat soldiers could not hold the swords, so the leather covering was a common sense fix. I have owned a dozen like this. The sword is overall 34 the grip is tight. Thats about all I know about it. We described things as best we can but we are not experts in every field. You may know more about the item then we do. You are the judge as to quality and value.
