Original 1914 US Navy medal group: named and engraved Good Conduct Medal to Phil E. Waller USS Mississippi dated July 13 1914; USN Mexican Campaign Medal rim-number 3628, WWI Victory Medal, and a Missouri WWI Service Medal; Mex and Victory medals are missing their brooches. All medals came out of an estate sale. I have done limited research; in 1910 Waller was an oiler aboard the USS Pennsylvania by 1920 he was a chief watertender at the Philadelphia Navy Yard , born and died in Missouri. This is a numbered M. 5372 Second Nicaraguan Campaign medal. It has the original split wrapped, barrel locking clasp brooch and original ribbon. The ribbon does show fading but still hangs strong from the brooch. The planchet has a pleasing chocolate brown patina, and is numbered M. The planchet edge is also officially engraved A. MILWAUKEE , and there are no edge knocks. This specific medal was awarded and issued to Lieutenant Commander (LtCom) Adelbert William Dutcher. Dutcher was born at Sodus Point, NY, on July 21, 1909. He first joined the United States Navy on March 7, 1927, and was assigned to the USS Milwaukee. On December 10, 1931, he was awarded this medal, and received it while stationed aboard the USS Vestal. He was also awarded the Good Conduct medal dated 1930, the Good Conduct reenlistment pin dated 1934 and another Good Conduct reenlistement pin dated 1938. He continued on with his naval career and eventually retired as a Lt. Commander, in July, 1956. He died at Garden Grove, California on May 10, 1986, and his ashes were spread at sea. US Navy Officers Model 1852 Sword & Knot Scabbard Engraved & Name Inscribed. Up for sale is a vintage US Navy Officers Sword & scabbard that has an engraved blade and the officers name inscribed into the blade. The blade is stamped Made in USA but I dont see a makers mark – could be engraved in the blade. The blade width is 3/4 and the fish skin type handle is plastic, and the engraving and condition lead me to believe this was a sword from WWI or WWII. The scabbard is marked in a couple of places 84. The blade measures 28 1/2″ long with total length of sword being 34″. If you have any questions please contact me.
