Original Badge for Flight Mechanics, so called”Balloon Badge” of the Yugoslav Royal Air Force. The period around 1937 to 1941. Silver gilt, partly enameled, hallmarked. Royal Yugoslavia Balloon Pilot Badge by Kovnica Sorlini with maker mark KS (Kovnica Sorlini, Varadin). The badge features a central balloon bag with the Kingdom S. Yugoslav shield, two machine-guns, propeller and engine. These are flanked by lightning bolts and bombs. The lower part of the badge is framed with a wreath. Complete with retaining nuts, in slightly worn condition, extreme rare and thus expensive. Badge in silver gilt, partly enameled, 38,5 mm width and 53,5 mm height, numbered on reverse 280, hallmarked on reverse KS, along rooster mark for silver. See photos for details. ARTIFACT: This is a stunning circa 1920s-1930s Bolivian Order of the Condor of the Andes Grand Officer neck badge. The blue-enameled Maltese cross has ball-tipped finials and Kantuta (cantua buxifolia) flowers between its arms. It hangs from an elaborate suspension in the form of a condor upon a green neck ribbon. Its face has a circular central medallion with the mountain of Potosi and a radiant gold sun in a blue sky encircled by a white enamel ring inscribed LA UNION ES LA FUERZA MCMXXV (Strength through Unity 1925); the reverse has a central red enamel medallion bearing the gilt letters RB (Republica Boliviano). The order was instituted on April 18, 1925 for civil and military merit and is Bolivias highest award. SIZE: Medallion: approximately 1-11/16 in height and 1-11/16 in width; ribbon: 31 in total length (including ties). CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Gilt silver, enamel, silk. Extremely Rare Turkish Republic Pilot Badge with a Certificate. 60 mm(width) x 50 mm(height). Badge is in great condition for its age and rarity, only small traces of wearing. This badge is modeled after a WW1 pilot’s badge, and the inscription at the top of the badge where the tughra would have been says “TC (Turkish Republic) – In memory of 10 years”. Taken by itself, I would have said that the already badge is a unique and unexampled item, but the document tells a much interesting story. The document is a graduation diploma from the Eskiehir aviation school. What they have done in this case is scratch out the usual wording and written in that this is a special award in recognition of 10 years’ service, to a “Tecnikci” or technician, who(probably) was an employee of the aviation school. That confirms that the badge is probably one of a kind. It is very interesting and unusual that the awarded military man has a Russian surname. Most likely heRussian pilot? Got into the Turkish military aviation school after the civil war in Russia, fleeing to Turkey from the Bolsheviks. The badge depicted on the diploma is – one would presume – something that was awarded to graduates of the aviation school. Obviously it is also modeled after the Ottoman pilot’s badge, but with the foundation date of the empire removed, and the “TC” or Turkish Republic cypher added at the top. This confirms that such badges were used by the Republic after the change to Latin writing at the end of 1928. Translation of the diploma. Pilotluk derecesi/piloting degree. Rasitlik derecesi/aviation degree. Teknik derecesi/ technical degree: 1. A Diplom to a flyer graduated from school of Aviation. This diplom is presented for the 10th Anniversary of Turkish Republic.
