This is an original very large Garrison flag given to Imperial Japanese 1st Fleet Admiral Seizo Kobayashi from the crew of the battleship Kongo. Admiral Kobayashi was the 1st Fleet Admiral from 1931 to 1933 and later went on to be the 17th Governor General of Taiwan. He served on the Kongo early in his career as a gunnery Officer, so the flag was probably given to him by the crew upon his retirement from the military. The flag is very large and has three panels sewn together with heavy leather tabs on one side, it measures 12 feet 8 inches by 8 feet 5 inches. There are some stains on the flag in several spots, but no holes or rips, it is in excellent condition for its age. This is a great piece of military history. All our items come from estate sales, yard sales, or places that we have traveled. All Japanese items came from Japan. I lived in Japan for 8 years and collected several nice pieces. We are a smoke free home, but many of the items were acquired from homes that may have smoked. This is a very nice example of a World War II Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The very fine antique Shinto, unsigned blade wears a cutting edge of 25 1/2 inches in length and from tip to tip it measures 32 inches. The blade does wear a visibly beautiful actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side and remains in untouched, uncleaned condition with only some minor surface blemishes. This blade has survived in very healthy condition and is a very nice quality made antique blade with no flaws, no bends and no cracks. The Sword wears Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts which all remain in very nice condition as well. The Regulation scabbard also remains very nice with only one very tiny ding. This is a fabulous example of a beautiful and well made Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a gorgeous Seki blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 26 1/4 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with its beautiful polish and only some very minor surface blemishes as well as continues to wear its lovely, actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears the signature “Seki ju ko Jima KANENORI saku ” and all the nice quality fittings remain very nice as well. The metal scabbard also remains very nice in its condition with just a little minor scuffing. Still present is the original beautiful, vivid colored Tassel which is mounted on a rare crossed-hand sarute. Overall measuring 38 1/2 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. #30 POLAND POLISH WWII POLISH AIR FORCE ORDER OF THE VIRTUTI MILITARI, #9198, 5th class, Silver gilt worn, superb enamels. Jozef Zawadzki who was attached to the 304th Slask Bomber Squadron as a Pilot observer during the Battle of Britain. Very rare 2nd type VM. A small number of these 5th class VMs were left over from 1921 production run and awarded until the supply ran out with the last number being 9,999. After that, VMs were never machine stamped with numbers. New supply of VMs were ordered from Spinks, Rubin in Palestine, in Italy and Polish Tech jewelers in London. Mounted on a old original Swiss made ribbon. New replacement ribbon will be supplied. Very rare VM award for Polish Air Force members. It is one of 1,500 crosses awarded during WWII which were made in the 1920’s. Superb example of Polish Military History during WWII. It maybe of some interest to those who are not familiar with Polish History to know that thousands of VM recipients from the WWI era also fought in the 1939 campaign. The where killed on the battlefield in full uniform or captured. In once place at one time at Katyn, 22,000 thousand Polish officers and NCOs were shot by the Soviets. Diameter without a crown 48mm. In good working order. Here is some incredible history of “Admiral Graf Spee” Battleship. The vessel was named after Admiral Maximilian von Spee, commander of the East Asia Squadron that fought the battles of Coronel and the Falkland Islands, where he was killed in action, in World War I. She was laid down at the Reichsmarinewerft shipyard in Wilhelmshaven in October 1932 and completed by January 1936. Armed with six 28 cm (11 in) guns in two triple gun turrets, Admiral Graf Spee and her sisters were designed to outgun any cruiser fast enough to catch them. Their top speed of 28 kn (52 km/h; 32 mph) left only a handful of ships in the Anglo-French navies able to catch them and powerful enough to sink them. Admiral Graf Spee was deployed to the South Atlantic in the weeks before the outbreak of World War II, to be positioned in merchant sea lanes once war was declared.
