East Coast towns Bluefields, Puerto Cabezas, Monkey Point, etc. Interior towns Ocotal, Jalapa, Quilalí, Santa Cruz, etc. Southern border to Costa Rica. Pacific Coast areas including Corinto & León. Maps like this were typically produced in extremely small numbers within Marine units. Original fold lines throughout (as issued). Some edge wear, small corner creases. Mild yellowing consistent with 95-year-old paper. Purple mimeograph lines still legible; no major tears seen. Overall Very Good for age. ? Why this is significant. Maps like this were hand-produced inside the Marine Corps, and most did not survive. USMC history collectors. Sandino Rebellion / Banana Wars historians. Military cartography collectors. Identified 21″ presentation office’s swagger stick to then Colonel Leo “Dutch Hermle, USMC. Hermle is one of the most distinguished Marines of all time. This stick bears the inscription Colonel L. Hermle Garde d’ Haiti 1930-34 engraved on a silver marked band. Hermle as a 2nd Lt was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism at Meuse Argonne, 2 Purple Hearts, and 2 Silver Stars for action in WW1. As a Captain, he served as a Colonel in the Garde d’ Haiti from 1930-34 with Commander roles. He served at Guadalcanal in 1942 with the 2nd Marine Division and would be awarded a Navy Cross for his actions as Assistant Division Commander of the 5th Marine Division on Iwo Jima in Feb 1945. This hat device is marked with the hallmark H-H, and the back is also marked 1/20 Silver, Sterling. This is from 1927 through 1936. The rope is not wrapped around the anchor but in an arch design, which is the 1927 pattern. Also, the 1927 Hilborn Hamburger pattern has the legs spread apart. Hilborn Hamburger continued to use this pattern after 1937. The most desirable pattern is the legs spread apart. Please review the pictures carefully, as they are also part of the description.
