In any case, they are just like I bought them. The circumstances surrounding Thompsons Kings Police Medal for Gallantry. At midnight on July 28, 1936, a small patrol of Palestine Police officers were fired upon by a group of Palestinians near the Nablus hills. The ensuing battle would last all day and only ended after British troops with tanks and airplanes made a counter attack. According to contemporary newspaper reports this skirmish was [t]he severest battle since the beginning of the Arab general strike against Jewish immigration 101 days ago. At least 20 Palestinians and one constable, named Christopher Wren, were killed during this clash. British Constable Horace William Henry Thompson was one of three Palestine Police officers recognized for his courageous conduct during this engagement. The others were Sergeant Hamish Ian McLeod and Constable David Farrar. According to the Palestine Police Old Comrades Association newsletter No. 118, March 1980 p 44-47 there were 65 KPMs awarded to the Palestine Police, and only 29 were for gallantry. Very Nice Ww2 Japanese Army Officer Sword
This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful hand-forged blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 11/16 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with a lovely actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears one hole and is unsigned. All the very nice fittings have also survived in beautiful, clean condition. The metal scabbard also remains in very nice in its condition with only a few light scuffs to the finish. 1930 Bronze Art Deco Medal Italian Jewish Community Mussolini Italy Judaica
Thick, heavy medal with stunning original patina, having never been cleaned/polished. No dents/dings/scratches, in immaculate condition. Obverse: Italian legend in Art Deco styled lettering — “Vittorio Emanuelle III Re / Benito Mussolini Capo / Del Governo / Le Comunita Ebraiche / D’Italia a Ricordo Della Legge 30 X 1930 IX”. Italian Fascist party symbols present. Reverse: Menorah with Ten Commandments, and the legend “Senza La Legge Cielo E Terra Crollerebbero” (Without the law heaven and earth would collapse). This medal commemorates the “Jewish Communities Act” of 1930. The Jewish Communities Act developed under the Mussolini government, was designed to organize the Jewish legal standing and required every Jew to be a registered member of a Jewish community (which, unfortunately, made it easier in later years to institute anti-Semitic laws). A historically important medal. I was shocked to have it become available to me recently, knowing how rare it was. Shown in the last two screenshots is another example of this medal currently being offered on the internet from a coin dealer in Israel. There is a long, scholarly article from 2016 from Italy about this period of time. If you search these exact words on Google “MUSSOLINI E GLI EBREI Circolo Culturale Excalibur”, it is the first match that pops up. There you will see another example of this medal, also completely polished/cleaned! I guess of the few extant medals known how many were issued to begin with? Not more than 100, likely 50 or less, most have been cleaned at some point. This medal is truly museum worthy. Leather bound, 80 pages, probably 130 historical navy related photos. All photos are removable and none are pasted down. Several photos of the S-51 which was sunk and retrieved with large crew loss. Pictures of subs S-10, S-11, S-12, S-13. Pictures of the battleships Arizona, California, Tennessee, West Virginian, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Mississippi, Seattle, Idaho and more before Pearl. Picture of the USS Langley, an early carrier. Photo of the airship Shenendoah. Photos of loading torpedoes and a scarce photo of S-12 through the periscope of S-13. I have never had one like it before. Virtually everything is named and annotated including the subs, ships, and all the personnel. The named admiral is H. Lots of the shots are from New London, many from West Coast and San Francisco. Last 10-15 pages are the sailor after discharge as a cab driver and truck driver in San Francisco. Includes his id from the cab company with his photo on reverse. Included is another smaller album of about 30 pages with mostly his girlfriends and family pictures from the 20’s. Nice Japanese Dress Naval Officer Sword
This is a very nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Dress Sword that dates from the World War II Era. It is mounted with a beautiful machine made blade that measures 25 5/8 inches in length which although shows to have been lightly cleaned, does remain in nice condition. The D-guard is beautifully detailed with pretty cherry blossoms “sakura” motifs that adorn the pommel, the backstrap and the guard face and frame a lovely white samé covered hilt with the original twisted wire wrap still tightly in place. The wonderful shagreen covered scabbard has one scuff on one side, nevertheless also remains is in very nice condition and wears equally beautiful detailed fittings.
