Extremely rare example of a very seldom encountered Chinese Republican sword variation dating from around 1920s-30s, belonged to a warlord of the Republican army, having gilt brass mounts with Foo Dogs carved in to both sides of the pommel and a large relief star to the guard among fine engraved floral decoratins, the grip retaining its fine sting ray skin and brass double wire wrapping intact. Wearing a sturdy straight single edged blade with deep narrow fuller to each side, showing wear to the nickeled finish with nice rich patina and multiple deviance of combat to the edge. Mostly solid and intact with micro play to the hilt mounts and in its original steel scabbard showing nice patina consistent with the age. Rare and exceptionally collectible weapon of one of the Chinese Republican army leaders. Overall 34 1/2 in scabbard. Listing and template services provided by inkFrog Open.
